Unlike you, I don't have to deal with Wikipedia to get my sources. My grandfather was a Director at MITRE, one of the key R&E entities for the government since near its founding back in the late 50s.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 9:36 amIn case you have learned to listen to what people tell you..The Conservative wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 9:25 amNo, we didn't. We almost did during Kennedy...we were less than 20 seconds from going nuclear on Cuba/Russia to remove the missiles. Reagan knew where we stood and went with it. We weren't even close to that level of "oh shit."

Ronald Reagan pushed the world closest we ever came to nuclear war. It is actually a very apropos topic to today because Putin used Able Archer as a blueprint for his Ukrainian invasion.
He was one of the people on the phone waiting to see when the missiles would launch during Kennedy and Reagan. My grandfather hated Reagan because he was an actor-made politician, his words, not mine. He said the closest we ever came was during Kennedy. I trust him more than I trust you or Wikipedia.
