Reagan was nuts, dude. We almost got blowed up.
No, we didn't. We almost did during Kennedy...we were less than 20 seconds from going nuclear on Cuba/Russia to remove the missiles. Reagan knew where we stood and went with it. We weren't even close to that level of "oh shit."
In case you have learned to listen to what people tell you..

Ronald Reagan pushed the world closest we ever came to nuclear war. It is actually a very apropos topic to today because Putin used Able Archer as a blueprint for his Ukrainian invasion.
Unlike you, I don't have to deal with Wikipedia to get my sources. My grandfather was a Director at MITRE, one of the key R&E entities for the government since near its founding back in the late 50s.

He was one of the people on the phone waiting to see when the missiles would launch during Kennedy and Reagan. My grandfather hated Reagan because he was an actor-made politician, his words, not mine. He said the closest we ever came was during Kennedy. I trust him more than I trust you or Wikipedia.

Reagan made the Soviets back down and capitulate, he made them shit their pants

that's not a good argument against more of that from Trump
Yeah, they did do that. It's easy in hindsight to say Reagan rah rah rah they backed down and shit their pants. But this was before you were born and after the Soviet Union collapsed we found out that it nearly went the other way. So it's more like rolling a pair of dice and gloating about how you knew it was going to be seven. But you actually had a 83.4% chance it wasn't going to be seven. Gloating about a successful outcome doesn't actually make an argument about the sanity of the decision. You understand that, right?

Which source would you like me to provide you with about Operation Able Archer?

Nice connection. Is it yours?
I wouldn't assume it is just mine. Seems pretty obvious to me. I thought it was obvious when he was doing his exercises before the invasion. I figured he was implicitly touching on Able Archer as a warning that he could actually carry out the invasion if he really wanted to do it. I didn't think he would be stupid enough to break the china and buy it.
StA level insight.

I've mentioned several times that you were the one who said something that after I thought about it, caused me to change position: the best was your call on NeoCons being the same as the Marxists. My understanding of Fascism (private authoritarianism) & Socialism (public authoritarianism) vs. liberty (anti-authoritarianism), and my concept of there being a liberty center surrounded by authoritarians came from that.

you made the argument that it was a bad call

you presented nothing to back that up

except an example that clearly undermines your case

Able Archer FTW

running away just makes nuclear war more likely

gotta call Russia's bluff

Ivan will simply do crazier and crazier shit

until America does

you accuse the GOP of being pro-Russia,

meanwhile your Neville Chamberlain bullshit is more pro-Russia than MAGA ever dreamed of being

Ronnie Raygun made the right call, deal with it

NATO didn't intend Able Archer to be a provocation

NATO did not know that the Soviets were in the grips of a war scare at the time

NATO would have called Able Archer off if they had known

Bullshit, if NATO didn't know that at the time, then there is no reason for NATO because it fell asleep at the wheel to say the least.
