I mean, we have kids who patrol the same stretch of desert as their fathers. That's not exactly keeping us away from foreign wars.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:33 amThey weren't using Greek tactics by the first century, Alexander went in front, Caesar never did

I don't know that I wish for it. I just haven't seen a compelling argument that shows that it would be a bad thing, for a time. The thing with the idea of a Caesar that I do like is that I would prefer to be outright told "Hey, I'm the boss, suck it up, rube." rather than have a bunch of whiny, effeminate talking heads pissing on my leg and telling me it's rain.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:38 amI didn't say worse, I said careful what you wish forXenophon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:35 amMakes sense. Just saying, Caesar is not the Roman Savior, Caesar is HitlerXenophon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:40 amI don't know that I wish for it. Gun Grabber, Drug Warrior and Economic Nationalist are good angles of attack. Attacking his personality, the way he talks or the way he tweets, is obvious weak sauceHanarchy Montanarchy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:37 amWhich are the acceptable reasons to dislike Trump? Do enlighten.

Anyone who could be compared to Cincinnatus wants no part of the levers of power, and the people currently holding those levers aren't interested in giving them up for any reason.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:41 amJust saying, Caesar is not the Roman Savior, Caesar is HitlerXenophon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:40 amI don't know that I wish for it. Honestly, there's no good answer on where to go from here, politically.
We'd probably need a series of serious crises before anything like Caesar has any chance of materializing.

The solution is quite simple
America is a Religion
Holy Warriors
They need an external enemy to unite against, to stave off internecine warfare
Cold War is optimal

What's the problem with the GWOT ?
Hot War, sub optimal
The American Religion is a Space Program
Bypass the tactical level altogether, do not climb Hill 937 at Dong Ap Bia
Never get out of the boat unless that boat has arrived at the Sea of Tranquility
Mahanian Eternal Seapower to the Stars

Now the Black Swan is here
Temporary external threat
Good training
The National Command Authority does not protect me, I protect them, by giving them freedom of action
Well Regulated Militia, stand to, stand to
Every man a Cincinnatus

Which would be fine except the population despises half of the National Command Authority at any given time, while the National Command Authority fights itself and prevents itself from working in an efficient fashion.

The place to look for Cincinnatus is not in Washington
The place to find him is in the mirror
