I don't begrudge the Soviets their brutality when it comes to their treatment of Germans, even the civilians. Brutality begets brutality, harsh injustice needs be met with harsh justice. The Germans literally considered, and treated not just Russians but all Slavs as "untermenschen". The nice, civilized and decent treatment way Western POVs were granted, was not granted to the civilians or soldiers Germany fought and dominated in the East. When you embrace collectively treating a people as barbaric as the Germans did, you open yourself and all your people up to, to be treated - justly - as barbarically.
Well, the Danish government did sign a non-aggression agreement with Germany in 1939. Fat load of good that did. We'd have lost no matter what since we did not have any allies and our economy and military was a joke, but I'd like to think we could have given the Norwegians a little more time to prepare their defense.
