So we were wrong to assume he was a terrorist?

Ronald Fiddler, known as Abu Zakariya al-Britani, blew himself up near the Iraqi city of Mosul this weekend, in an attack targeting coalition forces containing embedded British and American Special Forces advisers.

Looks pretty shaky, yeah.Speaker to Animals wrote:So we were wrong to assume he was a terrorist?
From the article:
Mr. Fiddler was found in a Taliban prison in Afghanistan in 2001 and held for two years at Camp X-Ray in Cuba, The Times reports. At one point he was accused of links to Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda.
Guy gets locked up for over a decade, given a payout, can't find work, goes home to shithole, realizes there's nothing to live for, and the US has already effectively ended his life.... (and somehow his "second wife" has 4 little kids now)..... Boom. After being released in 2004, Mr. Fiddler used his generous payout to buy a comfortable three-bedroom house near Manchester. However, after struggling to find work, he traveled to Turkey and crossed into Syria in April 2014.
His pregnant second wife, Shukee Begum, followed him soon after with her four young children.

Assumption is not a great substitution for proof when it comes to locking someone up for 10yrs without trial. One might "assume" it could lead to resentment.Speaker to Animals wrote:So we were wrong to assume he was a terrorist?
We may never know his motives......
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

So whenever a man's life gets upended, he turns into a suicide bomber?
Or maybe he was always a terrorist? He did in fact blow himself up in a terror attack.

I mean, from the catholic point of view, I guess you always were whatever you become... but for the rest of us, yes - you are a product of your environment and experiences.Speaker to Animals wrote:So whenever a man's life gets upended, he turns into a suicide bomber?

His family has spoken out today, claiming he was deeply affected by his time in prison first at the hands of the Taliban and then at Guantánamo. They also denied he received anything like £1m in compensation from David Cameron's Tory government.
His wife and children had to escape from Iraq after seeing what he was planning to do.
He was headed towards a check point manned by Shea militia and Iraqi soldiers when he blew himself up.

Yeah, maybe it was just a coincidence that a man from Manchester converted to Islam, and was only coincidentally captured with Al Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan. It was only his imprisonment that turned him into a terrorist. It's all our fault..

He was found by US special forces in a jail in Kandahar Afghanistan where he had been imprisoned by the Taliban after being accused of spying.Speaker to Animals wrote:Yeah, maybe it was just a coincidence that a man from Manchester converted to Islam, and was only coincidentally captured with Al Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan. Yeah, it was just a huge coincidence. He was only vacationing in Afghanistan when all this happened. Lots of Britons spent months embedded with AQ fighters in Afghanistan..
