Hey, I’m not the only one who finds this forum to reject accomplishment & expertise. I suggested that it’s because everyone thinks they can do what I did if they just had the time/money/inclination/luck; and no one disagreed. We’re all experts in everything; Google makes it so.
I would not hope to win a debate on the law, engineering, medicine, or anything like that against you Martin.
I would happily concede that your knowledge in those subjects is far more than mine will ever be.
What creeps me out is leftists attempt to defer to experts in an attempt to control personal freedom and autonomy and assume everyone will just give up entire ways of life and liberties. Curiously, they often ignore equally qualified experts who offer different opinions. Expertise is not monolithic. In fact, it is often diametrically opposed. Even the smartest experts and their institutions routinely get proven to be ineffective at anticipating and dealing with Black Swans. 2008 Banking gives a great example of this. IMF restructuring of Third World Countries and the utter disaster that followed gives another. The U.N. is full of experts in both diplomacy and global strategy and even with a nuclear backed security council they could not stop Africans in the 90's from hacking each other to death with machetes. The Best and the Brightest is a book about the experts of the Vietnam war. Didn't work out too well for them.
Its almost as if Science has become politcized and is being used to further political aims. You yourself have posted many proofs that this is occuring with Climate Change Alarmism and how even expert models are completely tainted.
This does not even take into account the lying factor. Experts frequently lie to the public, because they are not in some pristine intectual vacuum above the clamor and din of politics. They are just as much a part of it as we are. We have seen many Health Organizations lie through their teeth to the public about the efficacy of masks and withhold information because they didn't want a panic. Smart=/= Trustworthy or having the same interests as you.
I trust that experts in most cases are more knowledgeble than me, but I do not trust that they know what is best for me. I will be happy in listening to their tips, but I want the ability to make choices, good or bad.
