I also liked the third season more than most do. Not sure why people hated on Gyp, he drove home that Nucky "can't be half a gangster", which was the world Nucky had fully fallen into after the second season with the decision to handle his own dirty work by murdering his former protege. I don't get the hate on the decision to kill off Jimmy either, if Jimmy wasn't dead how could Richard save Tommy in such an epic fashion for instance? How could the ending possibly have been as dope without that happening? Faggots are just butthurt that a character they liked died for the sake of the story, boo fucking hoo.

Finally seeing some crony capitalism talk on HBO around alcohol was instant jerk off moment.

That's a good segway to Bobby Cannavale's next great role, on the late Vinyl about the early 70's music industry. Is the 70's "history" enough for this thread? I loved that show, though the self destructive behavior of the leads was so hard to watch at times I turned it off. Probably accurate enough though in it's coke, heroin, and alcohol tinted glasses, after all Jagger was one of the producers and his son one of the stars.

The thread shall be whatever it shall be and hopefully someone will post some historical tv news every once and a while.

Mad Men and Deadwood.
If you dig historical period pieces, they are the best that television has to offer in that regard. Head and shoulders above the rest.

LOVED Deadwood! Watching the 1st episode of American Gods I kept expecting McShane to be calling everyone cocksuckers. I need to try Madmen again, saw a couple of episodes and the self destructive behavior was hard to watch. My soft spot. I can't watch any of the "cringe TV" sitcoms.

Watched more of the Stone series. Boy, he goes off the deep end castigating Truman for not trusting Stalin to keep his word. WTF? Who would trust that murderous, paranoid, psycho for anything? Jumped to the Spanish war episode. Nothing much new to me, our interference in Latin America was over the top. I didn't know about Marine Gen Smedley Butler, who described his career as being a thug for gangsters. He sounds like he was running the op next to the "confessions of an Economic Hit Man" author.

Oliver Stone is pretty terrible all around. Quite a joke of a person. I can't really think of a good movie he has ever made. I don't think I'm out of line calling the guy a waste of human life tbh.

Joke of a person compared to who? Why is he a waste of human life?

The Crown (Netflix) and Victoria (PBS.)

Both excellent, and as far as I can tell, pretty accurate.
Account abandoned.

Watch any of his movies. The guy's reach always exceeds his grasp. The Alexander movie was horrible. He tried making a Freudian analysis of GWB that was horrible. He made a movie about Wall Street (2 movies). One was mediocre, the other horrible. He made that stupid JFK movie that perpetuated stupid conspiracy bullshit, especially the myth that JFK was a peacenik that would have kept us out of Vietnam, when JFK escalated the amount of advisors, and was president during the most dangerous period in history (Cuban missile Crisis). There is nothing wrong with having political views in film, or a contrarian streak. But if you are going to preach, try to make the sermon somewhat accurate and entertaining. Oliver Stone is not the worst director, but he really wants his films to be these groundbreaking political masterpieces. Seeing as how he is a mediocre director, and a con artist when it comes to facts, his films should be held to a high standard. He was also a close friend of Hugo Chavez, and strong promoter of his policies. Seeing as how Venezuela is not doing so hot, this virtue signalling should also be scrutinized. In a nutshell, fuck Oliver Stone up his limosine liberal ass. I don't think I'm out of line wishing the man a case of colon cancer. :P
