i don't think we need one. Tv series refers to the format so it means streaming services also.

Re: History related tv series news megathread.
My octogenarian mom raved about Oliver Stone's series on Netflix, saying she had never heard these things. There was nothing in E1 about early WW2 I didn't know, but the E2 had stuff about chicanery at the Dem convention of 44 I hadn't heard, and he was really harsh on Harry. Stone seem pretty sympathetic to the Soviets imo, implying Stalin had good reason to be a paranoid murderer.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

Capps: Did you watch Boardwalk Empire? Its not particularly accurate from a history standpoint, but it was a great show. If you haven't seen it, I think you would like it. We tend to agree on tv, and boardwalk is probably in my top 10 favorite shows.

I'd say the most illuminating and best narrative in in the Episodes that didn't air on Showtime originally. Specifically the one on Spanish American War and the Inter War years. I agree that he was implying that Stalin had a reason to be on the defense against Western Imperialism. As evidenced in the 1920s with the British, French, and US sending troops, money, supplies to overthrow the Soviets. It doesn't justify he murderous purges in the 1930s nor the famines etc. But yes there was an encirclement governing much Tsarists and Soviet doctrine foreign policy wise. The Japanese were a real threat as well.brewster wrote:My octogenarian mom raved about Oliver Stone's series on Netflix, saying she had never heard these things. Big fan of Boardwalk, prohibition period piece even Scorcese had to get involved with and a showrunner in Terrance Winter who wrote for The Sopranos, I was like, count me in. After the first season you could always count on things to pay off at the end of every season, even if things slowed down in the middle of a season for a while. Not the most consistent TV show, but I think it's a lot better than most critics seem to think it is.heydaralon wrote:Capps: Did you watch Boardwalk Empire? The son fucking his mom at the end of season one was a little too much for my taste and a lot id suspect. But what made the show less popular or well received as it could be was killing off the main lead too early, and then making Nucky and his new wife too cunty to care much for.StCapps wrote:Big fan of Boardwalk, after the first season you could always count on things to pay off at the end of every season, even if things slowed down in the middle of a season for a while. Killing off Jimmy made the show better, not just the end of the second season, but the payoff at the end of the series more than justified that as the right call to make. Steve Buscemi may not have gotten adequate shine until the final season, and the writers never really did Kelly McDonald proper service especially after the first season, but the side characters were great, even if we cared more about them than the male and female leads. If there weren't plenty of other side characters to care about after they killed off Jimmy it would have turned into a problem that they killed off a character so well liked, but that wasn't the case because they didn't turn around and give all the screen time to characters we didn't care about, they just gave other side characters more shine.GloryofGreece wrote:The son fucking his mom at the end of season one was a little too much for my taste and a lot id suspect.
