I did a thing.

My offer was accepted on a true country estate. 9 acres, beautiful house, nice community. There’s a river at the back of the property, an existing chicken coop and run, and established fruit trees.

The dream is coming true bros.
Good luck, problem with "owning" property is you don't... you rent for the rest of your life, but instead of paying an outrageous monthly fee to a landlord, you do it once a year to the government, and fuck if you miss a payment or off by a penny.
Deep insightful input, Glum.

Congrats,Subby!

Not fully true.
In many states disabled Vets don't pay state taxes, so they can truly own their property.

Not as many as it should be. And honestly, it shouldn't be required period. You pay enough in state taxes. Excise taxes should be illegal.

In prep news, the new property has 2 acres on the other side of a creek. Imma be building a bridge at some point, to pasture pigs in the trees back there.

Any general ideas of load capacity using wood vs steel or something?

Normally 4x the weight of the heaviest thing you expect to take across. If you are asking for designs, well that depends on the environment.

I design little bridges from time to time.

What's your span ? Width of the creek at the high water mark ?

What's the load you want it to carry ?

What wisth do you want ?

Note
Your foundation or abuttments on each side are critical.
What's your span ?

I won’t know for sure until we get there, but the water is about 10’ wide, swift flowing, with a gentle slope on the sides. I’m thinking some kind of arched design would work best, to avoid a huge span.

For weight, I only need a gator with the occasional 500 lbs of feed or dead pig in tow.
