Hey everyone. After the recent Thoughts On Ukraine episode, I thought it would be a good idea to bring someone on the show who has a different perspective. Kristaps Andrejsons is a Latvian journalist, writer, and the host of The Eastern Border podcast – one of my go-to podcasts for Russian, Soviet, and Eastern European history for many years. He is a fluent Russian speaker, and provides insight that you’re simply not going to get on CNN or Fox News. That said, he and I have very different interpretations of the recent history between the West & Russia, and this discussion was a great start at getting to the bottom of our disagreements. So, those of you who have been pining to see me get my ass handed to me by someone on this issue, maybe now’s your chance! It’s so fucking obvious western ruling class believes this is an opportunity to remove Putin - dam the risk of Nuke War. These people are truly fucking insane or absolutely callus to the everyday person. What’s it to them if 2/3rds of the global population gets wiped out - the’ve got their vaults to wait it out in.

It's a two hour interview w Scott Ritter, millitary intelligence analyst (maybe retired) Super interesting.

Some highlights of the interview

Russia has already won, Ritter expects it to be over in a week to a month.

Tactically NATO supplied Ukranian forces can win engagements, but some of them haven't been resupplied since the start of combat. The Russians are keeping them engaged, not giving them the opportunity to disengage. They are doing this with an attacking force of 1/3 strength of defenders, instead of the usual 3/1 ratio attackers need, which is absolutely banannas if true.

The economic sanctions are ineffective, and have only helped Putin's popularity, seems to hurt the West more than Russia.

Russians have been super heasitant to inflict causualties on the civillian population, and even the Ukranian army, even if this causes more Russian causualties, though now they are starting to change this in regard to the army. There is usually a 1:1 ratio of civs to millitary personnel killed in modern warfare and the civilian numbers killed are way less than that ratio.

The Russians aren't going to take Kiev, they need Zelinsky to surrender. Since the West has legitamized Zelensky, only he can legitamatley surrender. Killing him or capturing Kiev would actually hurt Russia's ability to be victorious.

He echoed all of Darryl Cooper's points about how we got here.

He has a very dim view of Western citizens traveling to Ukraine to fight. He says they can legitamatley be executed if captured, but at best might end up getting raped in Russian prison.

Lots more in the two hour interview. His analysis is definitely in line w my feelz, so maybe I put too much stock in what he says.

It's likely been like that for a long long time no? I mean generally you have a power elite and everyone else. Sure maybe 1-5% of the population work for them and believe they will benefit from that. And they do (usually, no?). Then you have maybe what the top 20% or so of the country that thinks the status quo is just fine for them and you know what, it usually is. I don't think this Ukraine/Russia thing is any crazier than WWI or WWII or the Cold War. Course we will only know after its over, and in hindsight if it really was or not.
