There is a right to self defence. Right up to the use of deadly force if you feel your life is in danger.
There is no right to arm yourself for self defence though.
the courts here simply found it "reasonable" that a person would need a gun to defend themselves against a lethal threat
the arguments here in court are not about the gun, but whether the use of force was reasonable in respect to the threat

But do Canadians say garage as: Guh-rahj
Or do they use the more effeminate, British: Gay-rahj

Re: Meanwhile in Australia
it's hard for me to say, I have a bit of an American accent myself
I come from the Evangeline Trail in Nova Scotia
because of the Evangelical connection to Dixie, we actually have a drawl, I got it from my grandpappy

I almost fall out of my chair any time a Brit tells me about their gay-rahj.
Like... dude ... stop.

Re: Meanwhile in Australia
my father was an American citizen, he had a Canadian accent with a slight California twang
but my grandparents in Nova Scotia you would think were from Tennessee by their accents
my NS grandparents were all about church, and they went to church in Dixie, so they spoke like they were from the South

Well, that's good ... because you never hear the term "Northern" paired with "gentlemen".Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 11:46 ammy father was an American citizen, he had a Canadian accent with a slight California twang

they never even travelled to the rest of Canada
they just drove from Nova Scotia to Dixieland to be with their own kind, back down the Evangeline Trial
my grandfather sounded like Hickock45, that's how he spoke, like Tennessee drawl
in Nova Scotia they actually call it "the Hants County Drawl"

my American grandparents, my father & my aunt, they started out with Canadian accents before they emigrated in 1950
but they lived so long in SoCal they started talking like Californians
Dan Carlin has that accent, the Los Angeles County California white guy accent

Re: Meanwhile in Australia
I don't think I have a Canadian accent
pretty sure I'm a fusion of my grandpappy's Tennessee & my father's California drawls
like when I travel in America, no American thinks I am Canadian, so I must sound like an American

Re: Meanwhile in Australia
What armed gunmen?
Last year, April 2019 - March 2020, there were 30 homicides by firearm.
2 down from the previous year.
Most of these are men murdering their wives/partners.
The chances of me having to defend myself against a gunman are virtually zero.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
