How has this conversation moved on to Prohibition?
This is not about a moral campaign to ban alcohol.
This is about trying to reduce the rate of infection.
Jabbed or not you are increasing the chance of a virus spreading by going to a crowded bar. Even if you only drink orange juice.
tune in, turn on, drop out

I haven't stood at a bar in more than a decade
I'm too frugal (cheap) to pay 4 or 5 quid a pint anyway.
I'd rather buy a bottle of port and drink it at home with a spliff or two.
I must still have some Scottish blood in my veins.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

prohibition was a moral crusade that people justified on public health grounds

vaccine passport mandates and government lockdowns are a moral crusade that people justify on public health grounds

it's easy to see the parallels between the the alcohol temperance ladies and the covid temperance ladies

even if you continue to remain oblivious
perhaps, however, bars are no longer what they were

bars are not Saloons anymore

bars are no longer worth defending, bars themselves have become part of the Temperance Leagues

so let them burn the village to save the village, accelerationism ftw

It's not really a moral crusade though is it?
It is a genuine public health issue.
Unless you are going to argue that alcoholism is highly infectious you are just diverting from the fact that during a pandemic it's a good idea to stop going to crowded bars even when it is the government telling you.

The smoking ban had more in common with covid than prohibition though.
Potentially harmful exhalations coming from drinkers.
It's hard to argue with having to smoke outside so you don't make other people ill.
Pubs have changed. The one's which have survived the last 40 years of decline are now more restaurant than saloon.

exactly, let them burn, I became revanchist against the hospitality industry when it become inhospitable

the Temperance Ladies overran the Saloons long time ago, turned them into women's establishments

I don't go to restaurants neither, the Ladies Who Lunch go, but I stay home

Because it is in the same vain. Reducing human freedom of choice is like trying to stop a river from flowing. The water will always find a way just like humans finding a way to do what they want to do, aka freedom of choice.
actually, I think you are mistaken

the young do not favour freedom, they fear it

at least two generations have been raised on the internet, at least one on smart phones

two generations is all that is needed to break the links with the past

so this Safe Space Brave New World is now baked into the culture

things are not going back to the way they were

this is the New Segregation

Jim Crow laws

except we are Jim Crow now

alcoholism is a genuine public health issue too

that doesn't make prohibition a good idea

the same logic applies to covid

covid being an infectious disease doesn't make obvious government overreach any better of an idea

the Temperance Leagues won the Prohibition war in the end

the Volstead Act was simply replaced with prohibition by draconian regulation

thus both the Saloons and the Speakeasy's ceased to exist, replaced by family friendly restaurants

so it's a lost cause, long ago lost, might as well just move on at this juncture

bear in mind that the Temperance Ladies were not just opposed to the drinking at Saloons

they opposed the whole lifestyle

men in their Saloons, drinking, smoking, gambling, prostitution & gun fights

and the Temperance Leagues have won the war against all that

the youth are raised in the Temperance Leagues now, they are not going to fight for Saloons
