I help the vulnerable by not going to crowded bars or any other indoor venues rammed with spreaders.
Social distancing is still the best way to slow the spread
See?
It's refreshing to watch you realize that every example where *you* actually helped the problem is 100% dependent upon *you* taking personal action.
Those are things *you* did to make a difference.

Likewise, every example of supporting more state intrusion, force, or punishment was not actually *you* helping anyone other than the government.
And when you're helping the government you are not helping "the vulnerable".
You are actually doing the opposite - you're helping the power structure.

So, you know - I encourage *you* to keep on helping others.
But please stop clamoring to empowering the state even further under the misguided belief that you're helping the vulnerble.
So you accept that not going to bars is helping but when government shuts the bars it isn't?
Not sure I follow your logic there.
the government shut down bars during prohibition too

how did that work out Monte?

I don't need the government to tell me not to go to a bar during a pandemic but apparently some people do.

That isn't what was said at all, Mrs. Newman.

Well, try this exercise out and see if you start to understand better:

Drinking alcohol isn't helping people live longer or live lawfully, but I don't support throwing people in prison for it.
Granted, if the government did start imprisoning people who consumed alcohol it would help both their liver and crime statistics.
But the quality of life would go down, right?

Same with "show me your papers" vaccine mandates.
Especially when vaccinated people are still catching COVID, carrying COVID, and spreading COVID.
So really - what does my vaccination paper really tell you?
Doesn't tell you I'm not COVID positive.
Doesn't tell you I'm not carrying COVID.
What are you achieving other than reducing the quality of life for everyone?

Organized crime rates, yes - but what happened to domestic disputes, drunk and disorderly, assault, battery, etc, etc?

I mean, this chart only shows homicides and suicides ... and it doesn't look like Prohibition increased homicide rates.
Looks like it just continued an already existing rate of increase.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/108 ... ohibition/

Regardless - legislating that people cannot drink alcohol, or consume in excess of 2000 calories a day would no doubt benefit their long term health.
So .. should we have calorie passports too? Make sure we don't over eat?
Alcohol passports?
Make sure we're not over consuming?

"It will help people" is a poor excuse for laying down national mandates.
Not having premarital sex will help people.
Who's in?

Nobody.

So why do folk think they have a compelling argument now?

more people were alcoholics during prohibition than prior

the idea that it would cause people to drink less

was wishful thinking at best

that shit backfired hard on the temperance ladies

not only did their husband's drink more

but now they were drinking with other girls in speakeasies

on top of it

they helped destroy more families than they saved

by pushing prohibition

including many of their own

be careful what you wish for temperance ladies

How has this conversation moved on to Prohibition?
This is not about a moral campaign to ban alcohol.
This is about trying to reduce the rate of infection.
Jabbed or not you are increasing the chance of a virus spreading by going to a crowded bar. Even if you only drink orange juice.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Because it is in the same vain. Reducing human freedom of choice is like trying to stop a river from flowing. The water will always find a way just like humans finding a way to do what they want to do, aka freedom of choice.
There is a time for good men to do bad things.

prohibition was a moral crusade that people justified on public health grounds

vaccine passport mandates and government lockdowns are a moral crusade that people justify on public health grounds

it's easy to see the parallels between the the alcohol temperance ladies and the covid temperance ladies

even if you continue to remain oblivious because you want to go full ostrich about how all this government intervention is obviously counterproductive
