notice how those claiming America should stay forever

are completely unable to explain the benefits of doing that

yet think they should stay forever anyway

cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug
Our biggest threats and competitors are all on the Asian and Eurasian continents.

That is the benefit of exercising regional control.

So far the only argument for letting go of that control is that the Taliban aren't woke, which is the sort of foreign policy thinking I would expect from a 15 year old.
what competitor is being contained by America remaining in a quagmire in Afghanistan?

none

it is not of any use whatsoever
China, Russia, Pakistan - I mean, other than the Woke, which enemies aren't in that region?

You can keep saying there is no point to having functional airbases under our control, and you can keep being wrong.

I want a world with barbians, feudal societies, monarchies, and theocracies. I want to be able to choose which one to live in, I'm choosing a Classic Liberal land...................... unfortunately, I don't know where that is anymore. Because the people that want to stay in Afghanistan forever, want me to buy shit made with Chinese slave labor, and demand I get jabbed with experimental drugs have control of my land.
How does leaving Afghanistan to the Taliban hurt China or strike a blow against big pharma?
how does staying do that?

it doesn't
Staying has zero effect on big pharma.

If Smitty is right and ceding the Afghanistan to the Taliban is ceding Afghanistan to China - well, even you can put that one together, champ.

I tend to agree with Hannarchy.
You've got 700 bases around the world. How much money are you expecting to get back from the MIC by pulling out of one airbase in Afghanistan?
You've still got 40k troops in Germany and 70k in Korea. 5-10k left in Afghanistan isn't going to break the bank.
I'm not being snide when I say that I thought that's what you'd say. I was curious though...
Since drtrech never made it over, Bjorn was chased off with unnecessary rudeness and Grumps went over to the dark side, there's only HM left to offer the moderate's viewpoint IMO.
Calling yourself a "moderate" is embarrassing, and part of why I can't stand your pov. Apparently, authoritarian is "moderate" in your definition.

However, if personal autonomy, The Enlightenment, is Rightwing, and Collectivism is Leftwing, I can understand your self-justification.

America have all the bases they need to attack any terrorists they want in Afghanistan

without having to stay in Afghanistan

let China have it

it's a quagmire for them to get bogged down in

never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake

in terms of hurting China, it is drawing them down a rabbit hole

making Pakistan China's problem is a good thing

let them get drawn into that

this was the original mission in Afghanistan, way back in 1979

let the Communists get dragged into that quagmire, make it into their Vietnam
Vietnam was already the Communists Vietnam.

China benefits whenever America looks weak, loses allies, and loses influence.

not if those allies aren't worth staying in a quagmire for

and not if "looking weak" causes China to make a mistake that rallies their enemies against them, especially allies that aren't worth the effort

and both are the case, in this instance
