Re: The Era of Biden
this is how America gets dragged into it
America in essence takes possession of the British Empire through the World Wars
America then becomes embroiled in Britain's Great Game in Central Asia
beginning in 1979, when Jimmy Carter sends the CIA in to destabilize the government in Kabul
under the auspices of the Carter Doctrine, which was really just a repackaging of the Domino Theory
this then incites the subsequent Soviet coup de'tat and invasion

Re: The Era of Biden
in terms of the Cold War logic of the Domino Theory, it was a sound strategy
it was a deliberate provocation, to incite an Islamic revolution which would spread to the USSR
the Soviets were so afraid of that, they take the bait, charge into their own Vietnam type adventure
it's a disaster for them, the Reagan Administration provides FIM-92 Stingers to the Muj, the Soviets eat that
the problem comes when the Soviets pull out and the Cold War ends
at which point Afghanistan is of no more use to Washington, so they abandon it overnight
this creates a power vacuum leading to a catastrophic civil war
in the wake of the total destruction of the civil society therein
the Taliban eventually emerge as the only force which can restore and maintain any sort of order
their methods may be brutal, but with no civil society, all methods are brutal, it's a harsh realm
NATO trying to build a civil society from the ground up modelled on Neoliberalism was a fool's errand, obviously

If you are to "pull out" of a region, you do so by leaving NOTHING for the enemy to use, that means all our military bases, our embassies, all the places we had that contain US equipment that can't be taken with us should have been slagged. That is how it was in WWII... it should never have changed here...StCapps wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 8:14 amyet here you are advocating to glass the place, just so America can claim an irrelevant "victory", indulging in a sunk cost fallacyThe Conservative wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 8:08 amYou don't remember when we were on the DNC do you? The US military was an entity that chewed bubblegum and kicked ass, and it was all out of bubblegum.
Now, I have no fucking idea what it is meant to be...
you first plan was better, protip
you want America to go back to kicking ass, Afghanistan ain't the place to do it, find a better target
If the Afghans could not maintain control, there should have been a metaphorical switch that should have been flipped and anything that was held by the US, should have been destroyed... leave the country in the same way we found it, a heap of slag and sand.
And you are right... I believe we should have leveled the place when we came through, scorched earth policy would have done well to cripple any resistance in our way. Then when we didn't find UBL, we should have packed up and let the UN take care of the end results.
The US is not a country designed to take care of, or build other countries up... end of story.
You don't win a war by wining the hearts and minds of the enemy, it didn't work for Germany, Russia, or any other country... why the fuck would it work for the US?

Oh, also if you noticed the people trying to flee? All men... where are the women? Well, I think the picture you just posted showed... the men are getting the fuck out and leaving the women to deal with the wrath of the enemy. Fucking cowards.

Re: The Era of Biden
in fairness to NATO, nation building was never really the motivation
that was merely a rubric, a make work project, sold to the public for domestic consumption
in reality, NATO countries were simply rendering unto American Caesar
Washington made it clear that participation under Article V was required to have Washington's favour
so the NATO countries deployed to curry favour in Washington on other issues, mostly trade

if they did go in, boots on the ground was a bad plan
don't need boots on the ground to level the place
there wasn't much worth leveling in the place anyway
bouncing the rubble is a waste of resources
a meaningless show of force that scares no one

America should have just stayed in after America went in, in 1979
once the Soviets were driven out, America could have used influence to keep a lid on the place
but once America dumped it, and it imploded, then America should not have charged back in
mind you, there is a middle way, which is stand off and strike from the sea as necessary
if ISIS for example masses on the battlefield, you can go ahead and bomb them, but no reason to do more
