Is Bitcoin a Currency?

Post by Martin Hash » Sat Jan 30, 2016 11:22 am

1) Will ebay & Amazon take bitcoin?
2) Can you pay your taxes with bitcoin?
3) Can you change bitcoin at the airport?
4) Can you pay for a tomato in Kurdistan with bitcoin?
5) Could you buy a Coke at a convention with bitcoin?
6) Do any credit cards accept bitcoin?
7) Will your broker sell you stocks via bitcoin?

Okay, I gave you some examples. Your turn...

If we're defining currency as a medium of exchange, then BitCoin and several other things are currency.
Cherry picking examples of transactions that may or may not be viable for that currency is meaningless, since the same game could be applied to all currencies.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The trajectory falls too steeply.

Hey brother! I'm good. No I lost interest in online dating. They actually refunded my money unprompted. Not sure if it's because I wasn't using it or because they didn't want to recognize protonmail for validation.

Bitcoin is clearly a commodity. Most commodities can function as a currency under some circumstances. Like cigarettes in prison.
