One of the biggest problems is that there is no demand for competency or success. We've been in forever war for 20 years, and no commander has been fired for not being able to get the job done. Oh, they will get fired if some hard charger takes a pic with corpse or pisses on the enemy. But you don't get fired if you can't devise a strategy to break the stalemate or if you fail to defeat the enemy.

Weak military is great news for a country slowly turning tyrannical.
Stalin did it with the seasoned Red Army - and even then his commie-ass policies almost debilitated his military before WW2. It took a world war to season the Red Army into the type of force that could maintain the Iron Curtain, and keep that dictator in power.

I'm betting woke army won't be able to keep a kook in power that long.
