That's why people who would normally not be Marxists are attracted to Marxism, but if they really are Marxists then the inequality created by a Free Market would be anathema to them.
It would be best not to confuse the two. The former can be saved and allied. The latter is far fewer in number.
Marxism is built on egalitarianism. Egalitarianism is equality-based; so if someone claims to be searching for equality, they are probably going to be sympathetic to Marxism, even if it's not fully implemented. I could walk outside my door and ask 10 people if equality is their #1 goal, and at least 7 of them would say yes.
Of course, it’s a fundamental human value.

I’d wager that every one of us started out believing in some form of Marxist ideals as a kid. The problem here is lack of education.

The Human Rights argument.

p.s. The Natural Rights argument is that people who inherit their wealth deserve it.
The very idea that someone else being successful has somehow diminished your own quality of life and opportunity is poison to the human spirit. I'd rather believe in predestination than "the success of one of us diminishes the rest of us". At least with predestination there's nothing you can do about it, God has decided. With Marxism the answer is to perpetually tear down and rob anyone who achieves any amount of success.

Equality assuages envy & resentment, even hate. A socialist in the true sense of the word, would be in favor of equality because it is best for everyone's mental & emotional health. An economic socialist can be convinced that inequality may be best for everyone's physical wellbeing.

It does, but in such tiny proportion that you’d never know it. Until someone reaches Musk/Bezos levels of wealth, and your currency is debased to keep up the payments to them.

See: the entire financial industry since 2007.

Sure Grumps.
Jeff Bezos has severely diminished your quality of life as he delivers ice cream to your fatass door at below supermarket prices.

How much do you expect to pay in taxes to feed unemployed retail workers?

Moldbug's solution to this is to give the lower strata of society jobs that, while not necessarily useful, still provide them personal meaning and a way to at least seem like they're earning a living.

What kind of Marxist bullshit is this?
"Oh noes, a job was lost, let's put them on the dole forevah"
Plenty of zero-skill labor jobs available.
Go harvest agriculture.
Get your CDL and drive a truck.
Join a roofing crew.
Join the military.
Join Uber/Amazon Delivery/Doordash.
Take a call center gig.

So on and so forth.
Get outta here with your tears and wailing.

Yell at the sky all you like, but you will pay, one way or the other. The only difference is that Unca Sam gets your ducats, rather than Best Buy.
