That is why they are so rare. We don't have leaders.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 12:04 pmI don’t know of any leaders by that definition; could you point one out?The Conservative wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:47 amA leader leads by example, a commander gets people to do things they don't want to.

If your definition doesn’t fit anyone, why have the word? Elon Musk is certainly a leader by my definition. The Conservative wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 1:30 pmThat is why they are so rare. Elon Musk is a boss. The stories you hear about him. Tyrant would be better.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 1:39 pmIf your definition doesn’t fit anyone, why have the word? And my definition doesn't fit anyone that we know, then perhaps we should get to know better people?
The current pope is as close to a Leader that we can get. He leads by example.
Is he perfect, no, but any other out there right now would lead to a political or ideological disagreement. Some could argue Ted Cruz.
Leaders are rare, and there is a reason for it.

If Elon Musk doesn’t qualify as a leader, or Donald Trump for that matter, I’m gonna say your definition sucks.

Donald Trump might have some of the right policies, he might be the just one of the very few politicians trying to do right by Americans, but he is not a very good leader. If he was a good leader he would not have lost even a rigged election.
There are a lot of good leaders out there, just not very many of them choose to go into politics. Right now we are suffering from a time of extended peace and prosperity. Peace and prosperity makes you soft, and makes your politicians soft. When you have peace and prosperity those who are best for the job of political leader tend to not be motivated to become a politician. The ugliness of politics isn't worth it. So you end up with a bunch of power hungry egomaniacs bureaucrats running the show.
I think Trump, in a way, recognized this, and is attempting to change things. The problem is he is a businessman and TV personality, not a leader. So even though he is making the right decisions, instead of being able to pull this country together, he instead makes himself a polarizing character. That may not be a bad thing, sometimes the only way to make the need for change apparent is by introducing a polarizing character that shakes things up and exposes the issues and flaws that need fixed. I would say view Trump as John the Baptist. He is there to lay the foundations for a true leader to come in and be the "savior".

Trump has leadership personalities, but he's not a leader. If he was, he would have gotten the RNC and DNC to work together.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 4:29 pmIf Elon Musk doesn’t qualify as a leader, or Donald Trump for that matter, I’m gonna say your definition sucks.
He is the president we needed, but he is not true leadership material.
Trump is a commander. And not in title only.
This is the problem, too many people think because you are rich and famous, you are a leader. By that definition Steve Jobs was a leader.
I met Steve Jobs; he was a boss, with a superiority complex.
You fall into that as well to some extent; I am not afraid to say. You fall somewhat into the commander zone too
Living your life saying you are better than everyone else is not leadership material. Rising people up with your influence and helping them succeed, taking them under your wing when no one else would, and showing them how to make it, even if they surpass you, is a leader.

Dude, you’re way too mystical for me. I gave up on religion and people telling me they know better.

Yeah, but you haven't gotten away from saying you know better than others. We know you are smart, but a leader doesn't laud it over people's heads... they use that ability to help others under them to succeed.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 6:55 pmDude, you’re way too mystical for me.
