For what it is worth, think about Trump.

He is at his absolute weakest when trying to prove he isn't 'racist' by tweeting some nonsense that nobody who already thinks he is an irredeemable racist will listen to.

He is at his strongest when he points to the economic gains minorities have had under his presidency. (Or was, it is harder right now, but that isn't his fault.)
