I am going to try to put this one more way:

I think most of us would agree with the interpretation that 'woke, anti-racism' is a type of religious belief. For the woke, calling someone a racist is basically like calling them a heretic.

What do I care if someone from a religion that I am not a part of calls me a heretic? They are right. I am a heretic by whatever definition they provide, it just doesn't matter to me.

That is where we disagree. This is hard to prove, but I get the distinct impression that constantly trying to defend against accusations of racism is allowing them to control the narrative because all of our cognitive space is filled up trying to prove a negative.

I say, fine, I will accept your definition of racism, because it is trivial to me. I can make a full-throated defense of enlightenment values and the founding principles of the United States in that context. Constantly being on the back foot over being accused of racism makes it impossible to mount an effective counter narrative.

Intelligent, well reasoned principles always benefit from clear definitions. Bad faith reasoning and argumentation benefits from fuzzy definitions. The woke have a clear definition of racism, but their crappy moral philosophy benefits from arguments that keep the definitions fuzzy. That is where their narrative power comes from, not some academic definition of racism or white supremacy.

The historical evidence shows the superiority of enlightenment values. If you are having trouble talking to people to the left of you because they keep calling things 'racist,' I would recommend just saying, "okay, but they aren't bigoted or prejudiced," and then going on to explain the moral superiority of that position and the enlightenment values that underpin them.

If they still disagree, and reject enlightenment values - oh well, that level of wokeness has a low ceiling, even if it seems to currently have a relatively high floor.

We are both fortunate to live in a free society where we can avoid the horrible common fate of deprivation, sickness, and starvation that was more or less universal through most of human history.

I am not concerned that I will meet the common fate of heretics. I've been a heretic my whole damn life and it has never once been even an inconvenience, much less an existential threat.
