For some reason, though, every time some one starts lifting restrictions, they get pilloried as anti-science mammon worshipers.
If we can eliminate the ignorant extremes of this debate it will save a lot of time and be far more productive.

My favorite part of the eat-the-rich worldview is when people who stay home and collect checks wax hyperbolic about how "Bezos won't be in the warehouses!"Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 11:57 am
To support the Reopen strategy with no containment in place is to believe the republican party over the science of epidemiology. There are reasons to discount the science too. But I don't see republican politicians and their corporate benefactors clamoring to share in the risks. Bezos is not working his warehouses with no PPE and no sick leave to prove his side of the argument here..
Right.
And neither will you.
And you're a much larger part of the population than the billionaires.
So since neither you nor Bezos will be facing any immediate risk, maybe step off your high horse about how the warehouse workers clamoring for a chance to work need to be FEMA camped.

Right now (C) and (D) are the only outcomes we will have. Either republicans are right or the scientists are right. If the scientific models are right, you are getting something along the lines of outcome (D). If the science is wrong, then you will get outcome (C). Outcome (C) would be awesome but magical, wishful thinking is not a reasonable justification.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 12:29 pmIn other words, continue to debase the currency into hyper-inflation.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 11:57 amGenerally, a few possible categories of outcomes:
(a) Maintain social isolation until we have adequate test capacity to safely reopen. Economy suffers but we keep it mostly intact with stimulus bills and various schemes.
Very likely.(b) Maintain social isolation until we have adequate test capacity to safely reopen and the economy collapses because the government is incapable or unwilling to implement emergency actions to keep us afloat (real possibility).
This will never be allowed, or people would lose their shit on our feckless senators.(c) Reopen economy even though we have no community testing to save the economy and scientific models are wrong -- we don't see huge spikes in fatalities, the entire health care sector does not collapse, and our economy is not destroyed instead of just enduring a second great depression.
This will never be allowed, or people would lose their shit on our feckless senators.(d) Reopen economy even though we have no community testing to save the economy and scientific models are correct -- scientists were correct and we suffer 2.2 million fatalities, several times that in permanently disabled, and our economy collapses rather than just a depression. (This is a very real outcome of reopening that some of you refuse to acknowledge)

I actually agree with much of what you have said on this subject too.
It's been as much of a shock to me as it probably has been for you.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

There is no “eat the rich worldview” espoused by me. I am saying you refuse to acknowledge the possibility that you are quite wrong about the virulence of this disease and you refuse to acknowledge the outcome if you are wrong. You are delusional. Trying to reframe the debate as an absolute choice between saving the economy and saving additional lives is delusional. Reopening the economy could very well BOTH crash the economy and cost us many unnecessary deaths.
Your entire position and dishonest framing of the issue is completely delusional.

Oh? That's interesting. Because someone using your username has spent about two months raging about "Mammon worshipers" and calling for anyone not sucking government dick to be thrown into camps. I don't think Martin allows multiple users to share a name here, but maybe. Be really weird if the same imposter was using your profile pic too. Talk about delusional.
And no . . . "Here's the worst numbers I can possibly find - WHAT IF!?!?!" is not a reasonable argument. It's a simpleton argument that can be applied to every situation, and one that is immediately dismissed by rational people.

I'm telling you to fuck off, because we are talking COVID-19 deaths, not COVID and (INSERT OTHER CAUSES HERE) deaths...PartyOf5 wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 12:31 pmI'm not trying to scare anyone. We're talking about COVID, yer you fail to include a column that has COVID as part of the description. The Conservative wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 11:10 amCOVID-19, that is what we are talking about, plain and simple. If you need to pad the numbers to get people scared, fuck off.
I pointed out how abnormally high pneumonia deaths have been since COVID as my reasoning for including them.
Your retort is to tell me to fuck off.
Just go back to insulting people who are on government assistance and keep telling them they have no voice. No one here was telling you that when you were on the dole.
If they are combining both together to get fear up, then you and the rest of the media just needs to fuck off and stop inflating numbers with fears... we have never seen a countrywide shutdown like this, and because of it, we have lost more jobs for no reason than because people can't math.

The 2.2 Million was a prediction... by what it shows (earlier in this topic) that the software used was designed by shitcode...DBTrek wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 1:03 pmOh? That's interesting. StA keeps reminding me that am a retard and I don't know how to code, yet the people he trusts that came out with the US stats of death of over 2.2 million, actually don't know how to code.
I am having a teacher friend of mine who teaches programming, verify the claims of this code being shitcode, but so far all that have looked at it that are worth their salt are saying this would have been a strong D- grade program if it was a final product in a college setting. And if it is true, then all claims that this pandemic was going to be world ending, is predicated on code that gives output that isn't good enough to wipe a leper's ass.

Okay, that's just more evasive tactics. Yes, you are behaving delusionally right now. The inability to consider the consequences of your assumptions being wrong is a common symptom of delusion.
Are you seriously unable to consider the fact that the economy will be even worse off if you are wrong about the disease and the models were right?
Stop gas lighting and answer that.

I reserve my powers of consideration for the likely, not for the outlandish.
We've lost almost as many jobs as Australia has people in one month.
All your "whataboutism" is going to be meaningless pretty quick if we keep playing fear-charades like this.
