Rank pettiness, resentment, and malice?
Really?
That's the motive you apply?
Sure looks that way when any attempt to discuss reopening the economy is met with vitriol and accusations of wanting everyone to die.
That's not how reasonable, well-intentioned, honest people respond to discussions.
So . . . we must look for the most likely motives that drive such responses, Occam's Razor style.
...and when any discussion about the conditions needed before the economy can be reopened safely is ignored or met with accusations of wanting to deliberately damage the economy you have to look at the motivation of those who would put money over lives.
Have the godamn discussion then. Every time opening up the economy comes up, the response is invariably: not yet.

When asked when, the response is: don't know.

When asked what it would take, the response is: we need tests.

End of discussion. No plan in sight.

This is what bothers me, the people who seem to be the ones saying "just stay home" are also the ones getting paychecks from the government on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.

When you have no skin in the game it's easy to sit back and just shoot your mouth off however you want. I mean, what do you care, right? You got yours. This is especially true among people who have their needs met without having to participate in the workforce. You don't even have to ask what their opinion on new government assistance programs will be. It's always "we need more"! And why wouldn't it be? They're never going to lose anything (since they don't earn anything) and they only stand to benefit if they win.
/shrug

But Monte does have skin in the game ... he's just apparently so comfortable that even socialist Euros are like "Nyet, comrade. You have plenty". Cool. He can obviously ride this out for a while because if he was out of food or losing his home he'd be out there finding a way to survive, like many here in the US are. But in his case, the risk of dying from COVID is greater than his risk of starvation, so he's making his call. I've got no problem with that. I just don't think people who are in more desperate situations should have to make the same call.

Because here's the elephant in the room ... no one is going to starve to death over lockdown orders. Nobody. Orders will be ignored first. Theft will follow as necessary. Then riots. And downhill from there if the food supply chain or other vital goods get disrupted.

So let's try to avoid all that, eh?

Recession is temporary, death is permanent.

That industry is me btw and without any welfare payments (I've been refused benefits) I'm going to really suffer financially but I still take that over death or permanent organ damage.
If that's your decision based on your assessment of the situation, cool. What's not cool is you trying to decide for everyone else who isn't so well off that their government is like "Nah, this cat will be fine with no work and no assistance". Those people who won't just "suffer financially", but will potentially lose their homes and go hungry. Your personal decision shouldn't be their only option.
Psh, whatever man. Why can't everyone just live in the woods in a camper?

Wait, wait, wait. There is also the outside possibility that martial law is declared, congress suspends posse comitatus, and troops are stationed on every block in order to ensure that doesn't happen.

With both that big multi-trillion dollar financial aid package to US businesses and also me assuming that not all US states have had the same restrictions on businesses degree of openess, how is US unemployment suddenly so high, so fast?

It was miscounted in April.

If you see this ice cream man . . . CALL 911!

Well, that's certainly better than just asking the dude to wear a mask.
Let's film him, with our man-boy voice shaking trying hold back the tears, then clog up the emergency response lines.
Definitely the America we should aspire to be, right?

That was some solid reporting. Are you sure that isn't a joke?

It played like an Onion news segment.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wish it was a joke.
