Picking the seeds out was hardly one of the worst aspects of slave labor. All the cotton gin did was increase the potential output, which made the slave owners more apt to demand higher quotas.SuburbanFarmer wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:28 amI mean, I’m pretty confident that it removes many of the worst aspects of cotton-slave labor. And our quotas now are exponentially higher. Is it worse than cotton slavery? Or is there another factor at work?Xenophon wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:44 amPicking the seeds out was hardly one of the worst aspects of slave labor. You appear to be associating cotton quotas with human suffering, which was not alleviated by the cotton gin. Therefore, the cotton industry is exponentially more filled with human suffering than in the 1800s, correct?Xenophon wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:46 amAre Africans still getting whipped? Hmm. You got me there. The cotton gin didn't do anything to alleviate the suffering of Southern Blacks during the 1800s. That was what I was commenting on.SuburbanFarmer wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:50 amYou appear to be associating cotton quotas with human suffering, which was not alleviated by the cotton gin. I’m told that boll weevils were a pretty serious problem, but fair enough. It’s all too rare to see a point conceded around here.Xenophon wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:54 amHmm. You got me there.
