It's during times of widespread economic hardships that one might learn to appreciate the safety net of a strong welfare system.
I don't suppose the muh roads clan will be turning down government assistance if they find themselves out of work for a few months this year.
Work is bullshit, jobs are jails, unemployment for everybody not just the rich
I don't need a job, I work for Dorothy Gale
Well, I aint you. I do need a job. And it is what it is. I hope one day I don't, but that's far down the road. Your way of life is sustainable because of the economy.
Suggesting that total economic collapse is going to result from a couple of months of closing down nonessential businesses unable to comply with social distancing recommendations might be considered an overreaction.
It is hard to define "total economic collapse," but we are looking at Great Depression levels of disruption. Shutting down "non-essential" business for two months absolutely can lead to that level of economic collapse.
It is hard to predict how quick the recovery will be, but we know we are at historic stock lows and unemployment highs already. If this goes on much longer, essential food shortages and service disruption become more and more likely.
This isn't just a two month staycation.
HAIL!
Her needs America so they won't just take his shit away like in some pussy non gun totting countries can happen.

you could enjoy yourself, i've enjoyed myself in every situation short of detention or hospitalization
i'm a hedonist, enjoyment is the point of life, which is what you make of it
I hear this bullshit at work too, prioritizing the economy by Bernie types. The economy is very fucking important Monte. The reason that we can keep the insanely expensive healthcare appparatus in place that will pay for all these COVID victims comes from the economy. The Healthcare systems you pay for with your tax dollars require revenue from (you guessed it!) taxpayers. People with jobs who are taxed. For that equation to work, you need money coming in. Grocery stores are part of the economy. People need to be able to work so they can buy things like food to eat while they are quarantined.
You realize that most small businesses are not profitable for the first few years right? Some folks spend decades of their lives saving scrimping and clawing to get one off the ground. Their margins are not as fat as you think. You probably think that they can just close for a few months and then open right back up no problem. Bull. Shit. It doesn't work that way, bills, insurance, mortgage, car payments, and children are fucking expensive and they don't stop because great grandma got the China cold. This is going to fuck up a lot of folks who spent huge portions of their lives putting all they had into their business to say nothing of their workers. The economy is the reason that you have a fucking healthcare system and all those social programs you like and aren't begging for rice with bugs crawling out of your ass.
I don't want anyone to die from this either, but destroying the livelihood of millions of Americans to say nothing of the restricting of their liberties and movements to protect a bunch of 80 year olds is a very fucking selfish way of looking at things imo. The elderly should do what they can to protect themselves, but we are going to be of zero help to them if we can't provide them with financial support.
Suggesting that total economic collapse is going to result from a couple of months of closing down nonessential businesses unable to comply with social distancing recommendations might be considered an overreaction.
Don't forget that those 80 year olds have spent a lifetime working to build the economy you are so keen to protect at their expense.
Nothing is stopping them from staying indoors and taking precautions Monte.
What about diabetics, the immunocompromised, asthmatics, cancer victims etc? How many people do you want to keep under house arrest for Mammon's sake whilst the virus runs uncontrolled through society?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

What about diabetics, cancer victims in normal times? They have to take extra precautions. And they can die from any number of things. I work with two asthmatics they are willing to roll the dice like me. We joke around and have a great time at work even with this going on. If you want to stay in your house stay. Fine. Some folks don't share your view. That's also fine.
