I just want people who are bad at math to shut the fuck up. It's about probability. We know what to expect from the regular flu. That is why we don't worry about it. There is a lot of uncertainty about batsoup19. We don't know yet. It could be really bad.
It's like people saying that more people die from slipping in the bathtub than from terrorism. So we shouldn't worry about terrorists. The probability of bathtub deaths suddenly doubling in a year is about 1/(the number of years since big bang). The probability of terrorists attacks doubling is much higher. That's why we worry about it.

Or comparing fixed risks like drownings to a risk with an exponential growth function (sars-2). A lot of what we are seeing simply stems from ignorance in general. Ignorance of math (people refusing to believe what the numbers tell us is possible). Ignorance of risk management (erroneously refusing to prepare for a risk because one believes their low-confidence at best probability that the risk will occur). etc.

If you don't like being called out for your doom-mongering and if you don't want to communicate with members whose opinions you don't like then that's entirely up to you but if you think epic flouncing is going to stop people expressing those opinions you could be very disappointed.
