It kind of seems like France and the UK might be fucked. I hope our cousins tracked down everybody who was infected.

You can see from this case that the r0 value in the equation here really is at least 4.0.

You can tell from the Diamond Princess as well. It is spreading fast on that ship.

If this happens, I hope you guys set aside enough supply to hunker down for a while so we can safely shit post at each other.

Where are you right now, @Monte? UK or France? That farm in France might be your best location to hunker down. Your friend will need to start planting in four weeks. Maybe you can offer to help. Having a huge piece of land to walk around would be amazing compared to being locked down in a condo. :?

I am not sure how much of this raw data released by PRC is accurate or even trustworthy, but it’s looking like the mortality rate could be much, much lower because the infection rate is much, much higher, with most people not really that sick. If you get the complications, however, it looks like 20%. But there is no way to know unless more non-Chinese get infected and the West gets enough reliable data.

There are just 8 known cases in the UK. The planeload of Brits flown out from Wuhan completes its 14 day quarantine on Thursday and so far there are no confirmed cases.
China is claiming that infection rates are flattening out.
Influenza is still killing more people.

I'm not taking it seriously until they cancel the Olympic games.

I'm in the UK, on a 100 acre farm. The place in France is just a small house on about an acre of land.
I've not actually left the farm for over a week.
Other than on Friday when we had a couple of guys come to help with some threshing I've not been in close proximity to anyone from off the farm either.
I do make bread from the wheat which is grown here and the freezers are packed full of beef if things really do get desperate but we don't grow any veg here. Plenty of small wildlife I could shoot with my air rifle I suppose and later in the year there will be plenty of hedgerow fruit and nuts available.
We're getting so much rain at the moment that water wouldn't really be a problem.

Anybody who is telling you this is not worse than influenza is either lying/gaslighting you or they are fucking idiots. This is far worse than anything like that. If this coronavirus were a pandemic as widespread as the influenza virus, it would be really fucking bad for us.

We should all hope and pray that China contains this epidemic, but don't be a fool and avoid preparations.

Even Wired is calling bullshit on this propaganda.

The "14day quarantine" now might not be enough...

"People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome."

Every picture I see of people walking around in masks also shows them with no gloves on.

Those surgical masks that some people are wearing, don't really do much, anyway:

https://www.livescience.com/face-mask-n ... virus.html
In some Asian countries, such as Japan and China, it's not uncommon to see people wearing surgical masks in public to protect against pathogens and pollution. But those masks don't help much in the context of a virus, Schaffner said. "They're not designed to keep out viral particles, and they're not nearly as tightly fitted around your nose and cheeks," as an N95 respirator, he said.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

They keep people from touching their faces. That's actually a big deal.

The problem for China is that these people rarely ever wash their hands. They are really unhygienic people. They shit in a hole in the ground and tp is not commonly used either.

Most of Asia is like that. Daralon is not completely off-kilter in his disgust.

This combined with their taste for exotic animals is why we are looking down the face of another Spanish Flu pandemic.
