It is boss, it's just a little pricey at $4000.00 : twice the price of a top o' the line AR

Do you like Heckler and Koch weapons? From what I have read, H&K is the default for a lot of our NATO allies. I forget what Hastur carried when he served but I'm 99% sure it was an H&K something.
I like most weapons, but it's not about the iron, it's all about the shooter

Resolved to stand and deliver in the face of contact is the key, so long as the rifle is serviceable, I'll make it work
What is the most overrated weapon in history in your opinion?

What is the most underrated?

I have heard the M16 was pretty terrible in Vietnam initially. It used to jam all the time and be fucked up due to the tropical weather. The AK47 can apparently fired even when filled with mud or buried underground for 10 years.

Most overrated is the AK47, not that it's bad, it's just overrated.

The problem with M16 was the tight tolerances, any little bit of grit which got into it, caused it to jam

Most of the problems with the M16 were solved in the 80's with the introduction of the AR15A2 HBAR platform.

Thing about the M16 is that you have to keep it clean, but for elite soldiers this is the norm

The advantage of the M16 is accuracy, it's laser accurate, that's why SOF prefer it.

The AK is good for poorly trained troops, it's idiot proof, but it's not precise, it's more of a hammer than a scalpel.

The AK is good for conscripts, but the contemporary AR is much better in the hands of a trained professional

Would be interesting to fire this new US Army Squad Weapon System Rifle by Sig Sauer

It's a totally new caliber : 6.8 x 51mm

So 6.8mm halfway between 5.56mm and 7.62mm in terms of the slug, but the cartridge is 51mm in length

It's a hybrid combining the two calibers into one.

The Army & Marine Corps are looking to go with 6.8x51mm & 8.6x70mm to replace 5.56x45mm & 7.62x51mm

8.6x70mm is .338 Lapua Magnum, the sniper round adapted as an all purpose caliber for the new machine guns.

Not a revolutionary change perhaps, but still a big upgrade in range and firepower at squad and platoon level.

What's the purpose? I honestly can't see one right now... it makes the ammo special, and also the gun useless in a long term gun battle when it comes to fighting alongside allies, which will more than likely be shooting NATO 5.56 rounds.

It just seems to me another specialization that will get you killed on the battlefield unless the chamber can handle the larger or smaller rounds without much if any change...

Sig Sauer MCX Promo

Modular is the big thing now, one rifle, four configurations, sniper, patrol, assault and close quarters.

The SCAR 17 is such a beautiful gun. It looks cool as shit. I'm not a gun guy, but that is a fucking awesome looking firearm. Just looks boss.

It was an H&K G3. Or AK4 as we called it. Swedish built and slightly modified. I think they changed 40 things about it. It was a nice gun. When I moved to a non-combat unit I was issued the Kpist m/45 or Swedish K as you call it. That was a fun gun. I also shot a lot of KSP 58 (FN MAG) and some Grg m/48 Carl Gustaf.

I think it was a mistake to follow NATO and change from our 6.5x55 to 7.62×51. I've talked to people who shot the FN-MAG and also the BAR in 6.5×55. They say it runs much better. A G3 in 6.5x55 would probably be much nicer to handle.
I guess making the switch was a money decision. All because the Americans refused to let go of the M14 project everyone had to go with 7.62×51.

There's nothing wrong with the G3, it's just not as elegant as a FN FAL

The new Squad Weapon System 6.8 x 51mm would replace the light caliber 5.56 x 45mm

The caliber to replace 7.62 x 51mm would be 8.6 x 70mm; which is otherwise known as .338 Lapua Magnum

The new 6.8 x 51mm Squad caliber gives the Squad 7.62 x 51mm like range, but in a lighter cartridge.

The new 8.6 x 70mm machine gun has a range of over 2 klicks, so it's GPMG sized, but shoots like a .50 cal

These new calibers wouldn't add that much to mechanized forces, which have firepower from the vehicles

For Infantry, Marines and Special Operations, it would be a significant increase in firepower, particularly range

The other aspect of the new ammo is polymer casings, to make them lighter

So even tho the new cartridges are larger, they actually weigh less than the current ammo calibers

With 6.8 x 51mm, the Squad gets the range and stopping power of the G3/FN FAL back, without the weight

With 8.6 x 70mm, you've got a 2 man GPMG team which can now reach out and hit at .50 cal ranges

Wouldn't you want uniformity across a multi-country fighting force though?

America is the Superpower due to logistics, the other countries don't contribute to the massive American arsenal

It's not an issue for the US Army, Marine Corps & SOF, the US military is a logistical universe unto itself

It's no different than when America adopted 5.56 x 45mm, the allies would eventually switch to the US ammo
