It's not about my comfort zone, it's just about my eyes glazing over as soon as you invoke fairy's and unicorns. /shrugs
Fae in my book die a genocidal death, and unicorns... yeah no...
Still not hooking me.

There's has to some sort of overarching concept to interest me.

What's the conflict, who is fighting who and why?

What's the political angle, what are you illustrating about the world we live in?

What's the cool factor, what's the bad ass technological marvel? Hal 9000, the Matrix, etcetera.
The first book and reality is more of getting all the pieces in place as well as world building because I’ve taken pretty much fantasy and thrown it on its head to some extent the further you get into the book.

The main combatants at least at this point in time is the girls family they are all attempting to protect her from outside influences.

The father figure in this was military and was rather good at his job to the point where when he retired he had to go into a form of hiding. His wife was one of those people he was ordered to hunt down, so there’s a story there which I’m not going to get into here. I can’t say though their history is a direct Relation to what is going on especially the father figure.

There's also other underlining stories which are still being developed as in the old God's new gods and upon how humans have decided that they are now superior to everything and have doubled them selves in some cases as gods and is an entire conflict that's going on that nobody knows about relation to what is going on especially the father figure.

As I said it’s difficult to explain in a 30 second clip here only because I’m not done with the story but if you’re willing to wait until I get home I probably can put more detail into it.

On a sidenote for sci-fi one of my favorite books is Armor.

Not just that, but warfare in space would take a really, really, really long time. You are basically firing at a ship such that your projectiles wouldn't be in its path for weeks. When the time factor draws out like that, tactics really become a kind of strategy game instead.
Ship to ship in deep space would pretty much be reduced to pursuit, following the same trajectory, any sort of tactical engagement would have to ensue upon arrival at a destination, that being a gravity well of some sort.

It's not like flying nor sailing, you're more going up or down along trajectories between destinations.

It's more like elevator war.

When you write something in that genre, let me know, I'd prolly check that out.

Naval conflict in WH40k is pretty good. I like some of their boarding tactics where they launch giant harpoons with chains as thick as a subway tunnel. WH40k is like high gothica grim dark. The ships are more like roaming space cathedrals with giant ordinance covered in skulls with candles and holy parchment draped everywhere.

The Lost Fleet novels are really good in the context of fleet engagement of ships that can accelerate up to percentages of the speed of light in a system. Smitty, you would love those novels up and down. Try the first novel, at least. The author was a naval commander. Great guy. He replies to questions by email (at least about six years ago). Really smart.

In the Protector novel, Niven describes an interstellar engagement between ships many light years apart. They would fire volleys and wait for weeks or months before they had to react to the incoming volleys. All the ships had fusion drives that maintained large particle scoops in front of them. The idea was to send something down those scoops to blow up the fusion drives. But everybody could see what was coming, so you had to fire rounds in weird patterns apropos to your enemies' trajectories to shut down their options and force them to eat a round.

Nearly everything is about brute force in WH40k. Close with the enemy and bludgeon them to a pulp.

I'm going to start near future and build that universe up.

Once I have an arc at the solar system level, then I would sequel to near interstellar, then far interstellar.

It's gonna be America all the way out tho

No Federation or whatever, no proxy for America, it's America all the way out.

In the end, science fiction is not really about the future, it's about the now.

I'm just going to project the now out into space, to explore the futurism aspects.

I'm more plotting than writing at this stage, building the sandbox.

I'm also going to buck the atheism trend.

My universe will be an intelligent design universe.

Future America is not atheist.

The pendulum swings back.

Great Awakening, they're Christians, in fact future America will be the last stronghold of Christianity.

Christianity will be one of the defining characteristics of future America.

For example if there is a fantastical mechanism, let's say a wormhole.

The trend is that aliens put it there, in my universe, it wasn't aliens, it was God.
