I eagerly await the first few chapters of Smitty's Sci-fi to compare.
I'm not a novelist, I'm more of a script writer, I'm always thinking movies not books.
I had someone tell me that it would work as a script with some working, so... care to take a gander, or just badmouth without knowing the full story?

Like I say, I'm not into that D&D shit anymore, I used to be, but I outgrew it high school, became obsessed with chicks, all that D&D, Star Wars and Marvel Comics shit just fell away, too juvenile.

I stuck with sci-fi, but only a very narrow subset, like Banks, like Reynolds, like Morgan, but most sci fi doesn't hook me.

In order for me to suspend disbelief it has to be grounded in some sort of reality.

That's why I love Alastair Reynolds, it has the drama of space opera, yet it is all theoretically plausible.

Anything that is fantastical, has a scientific theoretical basis, the laws of physics apply.

Because he's an astrophysicist, he knows his shit.

Even his most fantastical book, which is House of Suns, still follows theoretical plausibility, simply in a very distant future.

Well, then I would strongly walk back your criticism of my writing, and what it's about if you have no intention of reading it because if you are unwilling to get out of your comfort zone and read a portion if what I have been working on, and in turn educate yourself about the topic you are criticizing you are nothing short of a hypocrite.

With Ian Banks, it's more whimsical, it's not theoretically plausible, it's more like Dr. Who.

With Banks tho, the plausibility is political,

The Culture is all about anarchy which works, ultimate liberty with no government, and yet it functions and thrives.

Still not hooking me.

There's has to some sort of overarching concept to interest me.

What's the conflict, who is fighting who and why?

What's the political angle, what are you illustrating about the world we live in?

What's the cool factor, what's the bad ass technological marvel? Hal 9000, the Matrix, etcetera.

It's like with House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds

The entire novel is about cloning what a wormhole would actually be like.

That's the hook. Cloning, how would that actually work, how far could it go?

Wormholes, what would that actually look like, and how would it work?

Plus a romantic interest boy meets girl, boy tries to protect girl subplot

Which is essential, since that is what life is all about, if you're a boy.

I want to write a short story about a world where unicorns are beautiful, evil creatures that try to exterminate the good people of the fantasy world.
