Even if it's technically legal, it's still not OK to do so. And I also think this applies to grooming gangs and such, even though in that case it could be argued that it's in the "public's interest" to release the names, as people would like to know which people could rape their family members.

In this case, there's literally no reason whatsoever to release the name of the suspect this early. It wouldn't even be reasonable to release the name and picture if he got charged. A conviction, sure. But what good is it for the public to know the name and face of the driver? He's not a public figure, just an average joe.

I honestly thought the British media were better at this. But turns out they're just as much of a vulture as the American media.

I've often reacted the same way when I've read British tabloids. I only read them for the football news but I can see the other articles, and they always print the names of everyone involved. It can be a stupid story about someone drunk doing something stupid and the name and a photo will be there. It's weird when you're used to Scandinavian manners.

Apparently it was the driver calling for the ambulance. Doesn't sound like he's guilty to me. There's got to be a lawsuit against BBC and other media after this. Destroying a man's reputation, just to be first with the news is really not ok.

The timeline I saw said it's a refrigerated container, it was unloaded/arrived at 12:30, the guy had it on his truck at 1:05, and around 1:40 he stopped to get some paperwork from inside the container door and "was shocked" to find bodies, and immediately called police/EMS. Doesn't particularly sound like the actions of a guilty man to me, sounds more like just some guy picking up a load to deliver and stumbling upon what it's real contents were. (Now reported to all believed to be Chinese Nationals being smuggled in).

The rules about not publishing names unnecessarily are just customs held by the publishers.

Yet Canada is a speech banning, gun grabbing, thought policing centrally planned nanny state, just like Sweden.
