Police say that 38 of the bodies are adults and one is ages in their teens.

A 25-year-old-man from Northern Ireland has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner said: "This is a tragic incident where a large number of people have lost their lives. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened.

There is a direct route to Holyhead from Dublin. If the lorry came from Bulgaria, getting into Britain via Holyhead is an unorthodox route.

People have been saying that security and checks have been increased at places like Dover and Calais, so it might be seen as an easier way to get in by going from Cherbourg or Roscoff, over to Rosslare, then up the road to Dublin.

It’s a long way around and it’ll add an extra day to the journey.

...or perhaps if you are denied those "safe and legal options" you should rethink the idea and stay where you are, or go to another country, rather than breaking the law to travel dangerously to enter a country that has denied you entry (or "doesn't want you in their home")?

Just a thought. I mean, I'm pretty sure "breaking & entry" is a crime in most countries, whether it's into a home, a business, or the country itself.

He's been arrested on suspicion of murder so the police must have some evidence that he knew what was in his trailer.

I might be missing something, but the container came by ship from Belgium. While the lorry came from Ireland. The guy had the container attached to his lorry for less than an hour. Wouldn't it be plausible to assume the guy knew nothing about its contents in this little time period he had it?

And he haven't even been charged yet. If he's not responsible, his life will be destroyed anyway, by having his name and face associated with the case for the rest of his life. I just think they could've waited some days at least, as there could be some wrong information out there at this early point of the investigation.

Two addresses in NI have been raided by police in relation to the incident.
That's probably enough to arrest the driver on suspicion. Whether he is charged or released will be when we know if there is evidence that he knew what was in the trailer.

I think the media at least should wait to publish his name and face until he got charged for the crime. Maybe we'd have to wait another day or two, but at least his life wouldn't be destroyed if he's innocent.

Must be a white guy. If he was an axe wielding brown guy who severed a kid's arm then we would have no idea and would be racist to make any assumptions. I still say that Monty has to be a parody account.

Apparently it was the driver calling for the ambulance. Doesn't sound like he's guilty to me. There's got to be a lawsuit against BBC and other media after this. Destroying a man's reputation, just to be first with the news is really not ok.
