Nah, we've just fought 4 wars without nukes.
The difference is Persian Gulf War and execution of GWOT.

Iraq for instance. Shinseki told W he needed 300,000.... W said do it with 140,000.
Now, that's the POTUS' authority and I was no fan of Shinseki. But in the end we didn't have the troops to lock down Iraq and spent the next decade fighting every hajji from China to the South Sudan. In the end, we lost a bunch of great toops and patriots fighting an international insurgency.

I listened to Mike Moreley(?) former acting DNI under W being interviewed last week. He's an anti Trumper, but he laid it out pretty bare. He said every POTUS has for the last 75 years has followed the Truman Doctrine and enforced the hegemony. Things started to shift a little under Obama, but he quickly got with the program. Trump won't get with the program...…........ thus hatred and resistence in DC.
