These are not merely marketing decisions because they cost companies money. Also, if there truly existed this new market of disabled queer Muslim feminists, then there would exist demand for new comics with new characters and narratives.

You brought up Image in the 90s, but that is devastating to your position. Image is exactly what I was talking about. Gen X was growing up and still wanted their comics, but they wanted them darker and more violent. Entirely new universes were imagined. Gen X demand is what made The Watchmen happen. Nobody had to erase existing franchises to do that.

What the cultural Marxists want who took over these corps is to destroy existing comics. They do not care long term about sales because they know there exists no market for this shit.

This is the end of the long march through the institutions. It has nothing at all to do with making money. That Captain Marvel movie cost Disney so much they actually had to purchase tickets to their own movies to cover up the damage.

Image was a gamble, like all business ventures, that paid off. People did want that, and then it crept into a bunch of other IPs, and people were pissed. They had to introduce a bunch of multiverse nonsense to deal with the proliferation of Spidermen and Supermen that weren't making any money.

Making The Hulk a Chinese, or whatever, was also a gamble, and not as smart a gamble as Image. Thus, it is being rolled back or spun off. There is no conspiracy. Just people trying to expand their market by trying, and often failing, to predict what people want.

Captain Marvel was a clunker, but Wonder Woman made cash. So did Black Panther. They had reason to believe more diversity would pull more of the MCU/DCU fans into printed funny books. Bad gamble that is already being undone. No big deal.

As Mike pointed out, there are some loud twitter-vists that are super pumped about comic book diversity, but as the market rebuffs them, the industry will adapt, as it always as. Just as all the X-Men lost their cargo pants once everyone realized how gay X-Force was.

The shift in the 90s to darker themes and plots began with entirely new franchises being built to cater to the existing demand. They didn't turn Teen Titans dark. They created The Watchmen, Spawn, etc.

There exists NO DEMAND of note for SJW comics. It's a loser all the way around. Their only motivation is naked racism and sexism against whites and men. They wish to destroy existing franchises. If they actually wanted to create something, they'd actually create something.

Like I said about your kind earlier in the thread: there are two ways to have the biggest building in a city; you can build the tallest building or you can tear down all the other buildings. Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, Frank Miller's Batman, McFarlane's Nu-metal Spiderman. None of these were new creations, they all changed the tone and character of existing franchises.

People also got all pissy about the way Glenn Gould played Mozart. I love Gould, but his versions of the Mozart sonatas aren't my favorite. Fortunately, this doesn't destroy Mozart fandom, nor does it invalidate Gould's interpretations.

On the flip side: I much prefer the way Richter plays Schubert to Brendel, and I prefer Richter's Beethoven to Schnabel's... even though both Brendel and Schnabel have much more classic interpretations of those works.

Quality media franchises survive different interpretations. Getting all wrapped around the axle over interpretations you don't like is a stupid, progressive game, be it funny books, or classical records.
