More important question: Who even started drooling over so-called public displays of "dad-ing" (I guess fatherhood didn't appear in their mental dictionary?)? It's really an interesting anthropological study of this sub-culture of urban, progressive elites and the assumptions and beliefs that shine through without them thinking about it. I mean, do average American women (and/or men?) generally marvel or drool over public displays of fatherhood? If any of you with kids played around and made your kid giggle in public one day, did flocks of people gather around you and marvel at your fathering skills?

Those public displays of fatherhood must apparantly be, or must have been, very rare among this author's social circle who's been drooling over public displays of fatherhood... It's quite sad when you think about it.

Pride before the fall ring a bell?

Warning about the dangers of having too much pride doesn't not mean that it was ever the prevailing attitude to only take pride in one's own accomplishments, the fact that Pride needs to be warned about as a deadly sin, is in fact proof that this isn't the case, and it never was.

I have to disagree. The Democrats have been trying to destroy Pride in America for at least three generations.

Yup, but some people still feel pride about that stuff, and that has never not been the case either. Whether or not they should feel pride in something, doesn't seem to have that much impact on whether or not people take pride in it, and that's not a new phenomenon.

Hardly. You don't think the Democrats take pride in being SJWs, or anything else, because plenty of them hate America, that makes no sense. Since when is America the only thing Americans take pride in and those who don't take pride in it, don't take pride in anything? That's not a thing.
