What is the definition of conservatism?
Oh, goody. We're going to play definition games! I use the word as commonly used in the USA and as Webster defines it:
conservatism noun
con·ser·va·tism | \ kən-ˈsər-və-ˌti-zəm \
Definition of conservatism
1 capitalized
a : the principles and policies of a Conservative party
b : the Conservative party
2a : disposition in politics to preserve what is established
b : a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change
specifically : such a philosophy calling for lower taxes, limited government regulation of business and investing, a strong national defense, and individual financial responsibility for personal needs (such as retirement income or health-care coverage)
3 : the tendency to prefer an existing or traditional situation to change
religious conservatism
cultural conservatism
Now you get to tell me how wrong Websters and I are.

Wasn't me that tried to make this a personal/individual challenge but once it went there I am happy to compare my footprint to anyone else here.

Who else only uses solar energy to run their home?
No a/c.
No fossil fuels to heat my home.
Composting toilet using zero water and zero energy to recycle my waste.
No meat in my diet.
You're letting them define the playing field when they don't believe the game is real. Not one of them believes global warming is real, or that it's worth changing even the slightest behavior. The entirety of this dialog has been denial, deflection and fictions. Like the fact that China is a bigger net emitter of CO2 absolves us of doing anything all to reduce our fossil fuel consumption. It's like a thief asking the judge to set him free just because someone else stole more.

I still fail to understand why conservatives in general have been so hostile to environmentalism for the past 60 years. Is it simply greed, that it might cost them something? Partly, but I think it's also "I'm free to do whatever I want, and if I want to pollute and destroy the earth, that's my right". A 'tragedy of the commons' variant.
America is doing a better job of reducing it's Co2 emissions than any other country on the planet, despite it's lack of virtue signaling about it and claiming Climate Doomsday is right around the corner.

What more do you want? America is doing a better job than anyone else, and it's still not good enough for you? Fuck off brewster, America is not the problem here, even if America had net zero carbon emissions, it wouldn't make that much of a difference if China and India keep increasing their emissions anywhere near the rate they are now, and they will continue to do so, because they need to industrialize to actually get to first world status.

The only way to reduce global carbon emissions is to hold back developing nations from ever achieving first world status, and that isn't going to happen. You want to blame people for carbon emissions, blame China and India, they are far worse offenders, per capita doesn't mean shit.

You missed the part where America is also responsible for China's CO2.
It was in the same post where Monte lamented people not taking responsibility for themselves.

Look at 2 and 2b and you have your answer to “why”.

That, plus we don’t just change things because of “my fuckery feels”. We change based off of logic and facts, which so far there is scant few without distortion.

That was hilarious. Good ol' DB, destroying their entire argument in a single post, which of course lead to a giant helping of cognitive dissonance, because they will never admit they were wrong and mislead by cherry picked statistics. They'll simply move the goalposts in a panicked fashion to convince themselves that they are still making sense, while showing everyone without blinders on how idiotic their position is.

LOL. It's like a drunk boasting he's reduced his alcohol intake more than anyone else by cutting back from 3 bottles of hooch a day to 2 1/2!

Besides, it's not true. We dropped but are rising again.

Sure: point to India and China, and I'll point to Europe. You can't absolve yourself from trying to cut down the booze just because someone else has a problem too. Especially when that someone else sees you as a model of what they want to be.

If cutting back more than anyone else isn't good enough for you, then no amount of cut backs are going to impress you.
/shrugs

Therefore trying to impress you, isn't a goal America should be working towards, because you'll never be satisfied.

So easy shutting down bad arguments.
But the dummies are resilient to processing contrary information, and tenacious in holding the few ideas they've managed to grasp.
All they know is America bad, America polluter, and all the rest is just evil wizardry perpetrated by evil Americans.

Climate Doomsday is always right around the corner, no matter how many times they were wrong about it before, this time it's really coming.
