It does, but not nearly as much as current reality. Lying about history is a standard technique demagogues and authoritarians use to control the narrative and the people. Look at Putin trying to convince his people that Stalin and the Soviet Era wasn't so bad. You're trying to convince us that because Lincoln freed the slaves, and the Dixiecrats formed the Klan, the modern GOP simply CAN'T be racist. Please.

Re: Once and for all. Flipping of the Parties.
There's plenty out there on the myth of the Democrat/Dixiecrat flip, the southern strategy myth...………………. spoiler alert, exactly one democrat flipped, I think 2 went independent. The myth is represented as racist democrats all flipped to GOP after Civil Rights was signed. That is a bald faced lie.The Conservative wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:06 pmI have a friend who insists that Republicans and Democrats flipped parties in the 60's... and that the party that created the KKK was the Republicans...
What kid of brainwashing do you need to do to believe this shit?
The GOP is not great on race either, BUT they are violent racists like the Dems. While the GOP tried to push Civil Rights for Blacks several times(3 bills I think) in the 19th C., and where the majority voters for the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the GOP has been mostly indifferent to blacks throughout their history. Lincoln freed blacks, but also used blacks for political cache.

I have to disagree with you. IMHNSO, the most accurate history possible should be the goal.brewster wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:55 pmIt does, but not nearly as much as current reality. If current reality................ The GOP is the party of the KKK and racism, according to the corporate media. It's our job as individuals to point out that is Fake News whenever it comes up. As I stated above the GOP on race. Sure their are GOP folks that are racist, but not to the functional, organized level of the Democrats have proved throughout their history.
Excusing Democrat lies about blacks is to support the Democrat history of Racism. It surprises me that you support the Democrat history of racism in this way.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. I've said Dixiecrats were racist. So what? Anyone saying otherwise is deluded. But your trying to assess the Southern Strategy success on congressmen changing parties rather than voters doing so is just as deluded. Bases move but pols rarely flip to follow them, it usually loses them credibility. The Dems lost much of their traditional northern blue collar voters to the GOP in the last election. Shit happens, honesty is seeing it for what it is.

The people you are referring to are the neocons. They moved (mostly) from the democratic to republican party. Now they are moving back to the democrats where they belong.
But to characterize them as the source of democratic party racism is a joke.

Sounds like some slick shit until you realize that the bases elect the pols. The pols don't get lifetime appointments, and simply ride social-shifts out whenever the voter base moves on them. They adapt or lose their jobs.

Democrats love and revere racists
Note: Byrd was a Dixiecrat, and to the left of Obama is Joe Manchin, still serviing in Congress
Notice how fast they shut down BLM asking for demanding images of racist Woodrow Wilson to be removed at Princeton.

I disagree, the neocons are a different faction than the traditional southern white vote that shifted in that era. They're typically more northern and more educated. Are you claiming the Dems are currently racist?Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:22 pmThe people you are referring to are the neocons. DB, a lot of Southern Dems did lose their jobs. It took a while because incumbency is strong and movements like that are never instant. Look at Gore, he went from TN senator to not even being able to win the state in 2000. The switchers continued to vote for Byrd because they knew their man.

The dems drove southern whites out in the 1990s. They were called blue dogs.
