So I just got off the phone with one of my friends and he was telling me a little story about how the black staff nurse caused his wife, a subordinate nurse, to miss a date. He had decided to find this woman by phone and proceeded to ask her why his wife couldn't make the date and at the end of it drew the conclusion she was incompetent, and said so to her over the phone.

Now this is an amazing case study in clown world. It might not seem like it, and I can't be bothered to bore you with the details but it basically involved a giant hospital name in America bringing to bear, the full weight of analysis against this one remark. He called her incompetent and it went all the way to the very top of the entire corporation. They questioned his wife about their personal life trying to discertain if he was beating her. If there were any children in the house. The whole time, a woman that was actually being beaten and showing up to work with black eyes after missing days was ignored. Nothing to see here.

We don't need journalism? Yeah, Hastur, I'd prefer it if we did not get all our info about what our governments do, from the government itself, nor all our info about what corporations or banks or organizations do, from the those entities themselves.

Today’s journalists don’t do journalism anymore. No one is willing to pay for it. It’s just propaganda from the MSM now. We will have to depend on citizens like Tim Pool if we want something resembling reporting. You could argue he’s a journalist and that’s true, just not what we’re used to.

You're certainly right when it comes to no one willing to pay for news these days. We got almost an entire generation who grew on Napster, Limewire, on pirating music, movies and games, and who saw that as completely fine. They wanted the news for free, too. And the media did their best to oblige. There's a joke about Socialism hidden in there, somewhere...

I think the issue facing journalism is worse in some geographical areas, and less bad in others. Even as someone who mostly leans left, it's also clear that whether or not it began with them, it's clearly the progressive left in the US (and Sweden to an even larger extent) that engages more in outrage journalism (US) and which deliberately ignore politically inconvenient voices (Sweden). When the Swedish public broadcaster apologized on air what she called "offensive" or "racist" remarks by the SD head at the election debate, it became a news story on nearly all Danish newspapers. There were no newspapers, not even leftists, who approved of a public broadcaster "distancing" themselves from what really wasn't their business to "distance" themselves from - being a public service broadcaster.

Tim Pool, and people like him can help make the media picture more democratic, more independent, and ideally engage more citizens in the political process. Yet, even Tim Pool will go bankrupt if no one wants to give him money, and if he starts getting a following who only want him to give them stories that validate their views, then... if he goes where the money goes, he'll start engaging in the same tactic every other media outlet engages in.

I'm gonna sound like a really bad leftist here, but... sometimes what's wrong with the market is not the producers, it's the consumers. I can follow that the quality of journalism is going down. There are signs of the same trends from the US infecting Danish society though still to a much smaller degree, some progressives have even taken to redefining the word "liberal" to mean what it does in the US. Might grow, might fade, dunno. But I never take it seriously when someone here complains about "propaganda". Well, you're Swedish, so I guess I should give you a pass given the soul-crushing conformity Swedes have to endure, but still... most of what people call "propaganda", is nothing more than "a perspective I don't like". If you're a jihadi who hates freedom of religion, liberty, sex with women and laws against zoophilia, you're gonna call countries and media who describe those things as some degree of "problematic" as "propaganda". When you have a media market, consisting more and more of media consumers who only want news tailor-made to validate all their biases, their prejudices, their half-assed stereotypes of gays, MAGA hat wearing kids, people who help refugees, people who help refugees back to their side of the border, etc., who paint the other sides in the "culture war" as literal nazis, as Commies, as the Big White Devil, as whatever... then you simply need to pick your favourite propaganda.

Me, I'd prefer if the dominant media presence in any free and democratic society was a public service broadcaster. Not modelled on Sweden, of course. I am generally pleased with Danish public broadcasting. It might change - they recently became financed through taxes, and thus will be subject to parliamentary negotiation which means politicians could start directing what we have to see on public TV. Untill then, though, it still provides a broad insight into society at home and abroad.

BBC, the state-controlled news outlet for the UK government, helped fake chemical weapons attacks in order to help the UK government justify to the British people their fucking around in Syria. That was a real stand-up example of the superiority of "public service broadcasting".

All of these news outlets have been lying to people for generations. Every single God damned bullshit war was drummed up by them. At what point do you force yourself to accept this?
