Basically Pine Apple is probably wondering if she identifies with American Black culure... i.e. blues, hip hop, American urban etc or Jamaican Black culture... i.e. Rastafarian, Reggae, saltfish...
The cultures are pretty different.
But beyond that there is possibility that he thought Jamaicans are an indigenous people of Jamaica...
He's not letting on... which makes me think the latter is more likely.
well yes i'm happy to admit i was ignorant on the subject and that's why i asked, i hope i didn't give off the impression that my opinions were absolute, i tried to take an inquisitive tone with my questions, and the original quote was not my own. i'm no geographer but i honestly thought to myself 'i dont think jamaica is in africa,' so yes i was misunderstood on the history of jamaica.

that being said, my conflict comes more from the social norms that have developed around automatically calling black americans african-american, when not all black americans are african-american or even choose to identify that way. i know it's just a catch-all label but i just wish there wasn't so much emphasis put on it, it feels like there is an extra status implied in the term that wouldn't apply to an indian/jamaican-american.

i dunno man, i don't have my thoughts all sorted out on this subject but identity labels just rub me the wrong way

It doesn't matter how you identify or not.

African-American just refers to an American of African descent.

You could be called a European American by the same categorization.

I don't think it a good idea to start stripping people of their racial identity. It smacks of civic nationalism. As if we can all just forget about race as some social construct and then utopia will be ushered forth. It doesn't work that way.

I mean it matters in some ways how you identify...
In as much as this gives some information about your cultural allegiances and values...
It's not inconsequential.

I don't want to strip anyone of their racial identity, as if I could, I'd just like to see less attention given to it. People live and die by that shit, and when it ultimately comes time to make some presidential-level decisions, what the fuck do I care if Kamala Harris identifies as a Jamafrican Indian

Hey in this clip from today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uxjh3svlUJI she describes herself as a "proud American" so there's that

You almost have to feel sorry for chronic sufferers of Stockholm Syndrome. They would offer to go down on Sen. Warren's war drum to curry a second of favor with their master; all mixed up with battered husband symptoms also. Sad.

The Fifth Column podcast said that Chief Womp Womp gets pretty saucy after you get a few Sam Adams in her.
