ok yeah, that's fine thanks honestly i didn't know

i suppose my rebuttal would be well my people ultimately came from africa too but i realize that's a pedantic point to make so i'll just call the jamaican/indian lady african-american and carry on with my day

What makes an African American in your little world, then?

Descendants of slaves owned in the US came from the same place as the descendants of slaves owned in Jamaica (Africa).

well i didn't create the term african-american, and it isn't really part of my everyday vocabulary because it's so broadly defined and often incorrectly applied, so instead of qualifying identity based on recent or not recent descendents from locations they may or may not have come from i would just call her black or mixed or jamaican/indian or even african-american is fine too, i really dont care i was just posing a general question that i didnt know the answer to

if i were her i'd probably just go with 'american' and leapfrog over the other distinctions that play into identity in an effort to keep it simple stupid

I just sent in my 23andme DNA testing spit. Pretty soon, I won't be an "American," I'll be Central Asian, or European subcontinent, or some other land mass my ancestors originated in.

It is not broadly defined.

It is defined as an American citizen if African descent. Does she not have African descent? Is she not an American?

If we're not invited, we're expecting good production value on the video at the reveal party.

Basically Pine Apple is probably wondering if she identifies with American Black culure... i.e. blues, hip hop, American urban etc or Jamaican Black culture... i.e. Rastafarian, Reggae, saltfish...
The cultures are pretty different.
But beyond that there is possibility that he thought Jamaicans are an indigenous people of Jamaica...
He's not letting on... which makes me think the latter is more likely.
