Poor DrY.
Yes it is sad for me that you have no relevant argument.

We can disagree about whether the collective should pay for and ration private goods. Just so the dispute is honestly framed.

Why should the government not pay for private goods and services if the majority of voters want that?

If you want to argue costs, or problems with specific implementation, then sure. I can grock that.

But the state should never provide goods and services, even if the majority disagree with you? LOL

I never said it was illegal. Democracy rules so long as democracy has the guns and the troops. Enjoy your public school system.

Why should the state never provide goods or services that are not public goods?

A lot of times, it is easier and cheaper for us to do it that way. I prefer my fire department the way it is, thanks. It's not a "gibs alert". I pay for that via property taxes.

Economic inefficiency and the immorality of coercion, for starters.

IMNSHO. Just my opinion. A majority of egg-sucking snakes voting against a minority of chickens may have a different view.

Just be mindful to stay in the favor of the majority of voters, I reckon.

In the case of the fire department, your "economic inefficiency" claim does not hold water, chickens and snakes not withstanding..

A reasonable argument can be made that fire protection is a public good. And the opposite.

I think you might need to make that argument against yourself from about thirty minutes ago:

In economics, a public good is a good that is both non-excludable and non-rivalrous in that individuals cannot be effectively excluded from use and where use by one individual does not reduce availability to others.

Fire protection isn't a simple case, and I'll have time for more on it later. For the time being, consider the benefit your condo receives from the fire being put out in mine on the other side of our common wall. Fire is like an enemy bomb or chemical attack in many ways; it doesn't naturally contain itself to one piece of property.
