Denmark plans to isolate 'unwanted' migrants on remote island

...DPP immigration spokesperson Martin Henriksen told CNN: "Our hope ... is that people outside Denmark will understand that Denmark is not a very attractive place to seek asylum, if you are of refugee background, mean to cause harm, or incite crime."
Støjberg wrote on Facebook, "When you are unwanted in Danish society, you should not be a nuisance for regular Danes," adding, "(The migrants) will be getting a new address."

According to the plan, which must still be passed by the parliament, that address may be Lindholm Island in the southeast of the country, which lies two miles out to sea and for decades has housed a research center for seriously ill and contagious animals.

Danish immigration minister Inger Støjberg wrote on Facebook that certain migrants "are unwanted and they will feel it." ...

. . . Euros slowly waking up to the nightmare they brought upon themselves (while condescending to us about how bigoted we are for not embracing the same nightmare).

It's true enough. Lindholm island is tiny and unless you fancy a little swimming, it does work to send the message Støjberg wants to send.

Of course, problem is, it's just "symbol-politics" as we call it here, or what you might call political theater. Spend alot of money repurposing an old research center to send the message that the government is getting even tougher on immigration. No doubt it's working from a PR perspective, but it has been working for quite a long time without overspending money on ridiculous political theater and gimmicks. However, the over the top gimmicky sketches are what makes their way to the ears of refugees and wannabe (third world) immigrants without education and job prospects, so it might reduce the strain. I preferred when the Danish government simply posted articles in Arabic newspapers in Lebanon and Turkey discouraging refugees and immigrants from migrating to Denmark.

It's no coincidence refugees and migrants preferred to go straight to Sweden, and simply used Denmark as a stepping stone. The nationalist party has been a major political force in Danish politics since 2001, and they've been in Danish parliamentary politics since the late 80's, I believe (they broke away from an earlier party started in the 70's). Unlike many other European countries, the Danish nationalist (or National-Conservative, or simply "Socialist"... :P ) party, have been an accepted political party, part of the political establishment for over a decade.

But I don't see any reason to build more asylum centers, no matter if they're in a hostile, in your face geography that'll show them who's boss. That shitty behavior should be beneath us. It's needlessly cruel to those refugees who aren't rapists - and yeah, those exist. I don't want more of them here, but that doesn't mean I'd condone acting like an asshole. You can turn down someone from living in your society without being an asshole about it.

It's the laws, international, regional and some national that need reviewing and challenging, the numbers of how many we recieve. Don't need to build projects meant for media entertainment if government can get its shit together and assert its own goddamn sovereignty. Want to act "tough" on immigration? Show your toughness by standing up to those who want to dictate our immigration policies.

Oh, and a picture of the island in question:

Housing foreigners on a beautiful island estate until they can be returned to their point of origin.

Or as Bjorn calls it, shitty behavior that should be beneath his country. Being an asshole about immigration.

If free island housing is being an asshole, what is North Korea's immigration policy called?

The Danish government wanted to send them to the Faroe Islands first, but the refugees had some very Mohammedan ideas about what to do with the pilot whales' blowholes so that plan was scrapped...

Wonder how many citizens of Middle East or North African nations are losing sleep over how their illegal immigrant accommodations appear to random people trying to sneak into their borders.
