Remember, insurance is just a taste; if you've got money, the vic will sue you for millions and the auto insurance only goes to $100K. The plaintiff attorney does it on contingency because they at least know they'll get the $100K or the insurance company will settle. If there was NO insurance, the ambulence chasers would have to foot the bill, and they wouldn't, so no frivolous lawsuits.
Insurance actually CAUSES the liability extortion industry.
