1000 NOK is comparable to about .023 American dollars. Granted, most Norwegians make less than 29 cents a day so they will feel this sting a bit. Norway is a developing country and they are attempting to use their oil to modernize and bring themselves into the 21st century.

It won't be a write-off, you will refloat and repair it. Going to be expensive though.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Way too much faith in Norwegian armed forces spending here. Refloating and repairing it will cost even more than what we initially paid for it. It will be a write off. And if it isn't, it will be an even worse disaster.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 8:57 amIt won't be a write-off, you will refloat and repair it. Going to be expensive though.
And the situation is still not under control. It happened during calm seas, which is unusual at this time of the year. But on saturday, the normal weather is coming back. Waves can crush it where it lies now.
Best thing we can do now, is just accept the losses and just keep trucking on with four frigates instead of five.

Please stop giving him false hope Monte. Norway can't even provide penicillin for its citizens. How would they be able to fix a large expensive boat?Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 8:57 amIt won't be a write-off, you will refloat and repair it. Going to be expensive though.

I know where you are headed with this and you should just stop now.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:02 amPlease stop giving him false hope Monte. Norway shouldn't have stuck with longboats and you are a bigot for suggesting they should.

They could mount some archers on the sides and maybe trade those military helicopters for a fearsome hot air balloon. The balloon could be flown into enemy territory where spears and puckets of hot pitch could be dumped onto their encampments.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:06 amI know where you are headed with this and you should just stop now.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:02 amPlease stop giving him false hope Monte. btw that Viking ship is pretty goddamn awesome. Imagine being out on the open ocean in that thing and seeing glaciers off to your right.

It's moving at quite a lick too. Wind on its quarters in a rough sea and it's barely heeling over at all.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:25 ambtw that Viking ship is pretty goddamn awesome. Imagine being out on the open ocean in that thing and seeing glaciers off to your right.

I wonder if that ship is better or worse than the ones the Vikings used. We have better tools, modern technology, probably better sealants, but the Vikings built those ships for centuries, and knew all kinds of tricks. Did they even leave blueprints on exactly how they built their ships? Are the modern ones just guesses?Montegriffo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:29 amIt's moving at quite a lick too. You'll get a better answer from one of our resident Vikings but I think they are very authentic. I don't know about blueprints but plenty of boats have been found in good states of preservation. Done properly they would have been built using tools from the period.heydaralon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 9:37 amI wonder if that ship is better or worse than the ones the Vikings used. The rigging would be more of a guess because that doesn't often survive.
