Austin Scott Miller made his first public statements after taking charge of American operations, and shocked with his frank assessment that that the Afghan war cannot be won militarily and peace will only be achieved through direct engagement and negotiations with the Taliban — the very terror group which US forces sought to defeat when it first invaded in 2001.

That had to happen early. First of all, I don't think the American public could be sold on a major build up in Afghanistan today. It was the type of war that required a Gulf War I type coalition and sized force to hit the ground and totally remake the country...……………… didn't happen. There's a reason they call it, The place where Empires go to Die.

We are dead, but understanding we have limits is OK too. GWOT was always best attacked as a Spec Ops/Whack a Mole/ International Policing War. Much like we deal with Piracy.

The important thing is that you learn your lessons and get your ass out of bad situations, even if some military officers or politicians have to look bad for doing it. This is what BHO was elected to do, and missed his chance after OBL was killed................. not only did he miss it, he expanded it into Syria and Libya.

Trump has wanted to end this. It was in all his 2016 election speeches, but not covered by the press.

I think the difference is that Trump would let Mattis do what is required to win. While Obama wanted to go Hitler on everyone and control everything.

Almost half of them support jihad and terrorism. It's been shown by numerous polls. Of the ones who claim to not support it, most of them say nothing when they know who is a jihadi, so their lack of support does not even amount to active resistance.

Further, if somebody claims to believe the tenants of a religion, then I take them for their word. The tenants of Islam is one of military and political conquest of the Earth. Everything outside of the Islamic nations they literally call the House of War.
