We have freedom, frihet. But not liberty. In political science it’s referred to as negative freedom.GloryofGreece wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 12:06 pmThere really is no word or concept in Swedish for personal freedom?Hastur wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 10:40 amAre there more Swedes here? I pointed out before that the Swedish language don’t have a word for liberty. It’s a foreign concept. Sweden is thoroughly collectivist. I don’t like the term Marxist. It means to many things. Like feminism it’s almost unusable today.Martin Hash wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 8:22 amIt's interesting to me that the analysis video clearly assumes Swedish society is the Marxist model, and people there, even politically educated commentators, have no way to recognize liberty, yet when I've proposed the same analysis on this forum, the Swedes here say that it's only a couple of their political Parties that are Marxist.

At least one Swede, Hastur, knows what liberty is. Dude, if you ever visit the States, I got plenty of room at my house when you come to

My objection to using Marxism as a term for the regressive left is that they aren't Marxist anymore. Marx would be abhorred by the identity politics. To him, there was only one hierarchy that transcended all others, class. And class is not fixed. A rich colored immigrant transexual is above a native white homeless unemployed man but it doesn't have to remain like that. The whole victim culture attached to identity would disgust Marx.
Also, the postmodern practice of playing fast and loose with logic is so unscientific that any true Marxist would shake their head. Try to convince him or her the logic of this: Someone that feels like a woman born in a man's body is due to biology but if a woman born like a woman feels like a woman its due to culture. Feeling trumps facts and tone is more important than arguments. Logic is a tool of patriarchal oppression and any opinion is of equal worth. That is not Marxism.
The modern left that we have today is more influenced by Rosseau than Marx.

Rousseau gets associated with feelings, but a big part of his belief system was based on (in his opinion) logic and rationalism. Also that dude bought a 12 year old girl in Venice and shared her with another grown man, so keep that in mind as well. Kind of a creep.Hastur wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 2:05 pmThank you. I will. Freedom is what the law allows you to do. Liberty is the freedom from laws telling you what you are allowed to. There is a reason for the repeated phrasing in your constitution, "Congress Shall Make No Law". That can only be written by someone who understands Liberty.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 12:10 pmTo be fair, we abuse the fuck out of the word freedom. Freedom to do what, and who has that freedom? Freedom in the abstract is a nonsensical term. Oftentimes, freedom for one man to do something means another man must lose his freedom to not participate in it, for instance. Other times, freedom to do some degenerate behavior means people collectively do not have the freedom to live free from the consequences of those decisions, since the consequences get spread about society and are almost never wholly contained to the life of the degenerate. Drug abuse is one of those things.
We have no such rules against certain legislation and thereby no liberty.

The interviewer was a stand in for Hastur. He actually believes everything she said to JP and more! I've been warning the forum about this Swede for years, but no one listened to me. Now he is trying to socialize threads and tear down Western thought. #sad

However, I see Marx and Rousseau as being a lot closer ideologically than you do. I think the General Will is pretty much a proto type of what you saw implemented in Russia and China. Rousseau didn't quite have Marx's burning hatred for religion, but he pretty much laid all the framework down for him.

It's Rousseau's misanthropy I can't stand. His historical pessimism (history means decay) coupled with his optimism toward primitive man (man is naturally good) that I can't stand. He was a cultural arsonist on a colossal scale. I think it all stemmed from self-hatred. He realized what an appalling man he was, assumed everyone else was the same and blamed civilization for his own shortcomings.heydaralon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 2:29 pmI'm not a fan.Hastur wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 2:24 pmRosseau did more damage to our world than Napoleon.
