Speaker is right Kath. Any and all donations will greatly improve the likelihood of those Carolina folks getting the life-saving water and medical treatment they need. I am organizing a fundraising campaign for them, so if you want to send money I can give you my paypal info for you to donate. There is a small chance it won't go through, so please send me a blank check signed with my bank account number on it so that I can deposit it and make sure it goes toward FEMA supplies. If your paypal deposit to me goes through, I will tear up the check, but I would like to have that backup plan in case things get worse in NC. We are in this together Kath, and I need your help to make this happen. Send me a PM quickly!Kath wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 4:40 pmYou are talking from a lack of knowledge, I'm afraid. S Florida isn't prone to surge levels like they experience in NC and NO, due to the depth of the shelf offshore. It's very shallow in NC, with seven rivers flooding at record levels. Our topography isn't as flat, either. We have the Everglades to absorb some of the water, also. Another factor, Florida doesn't have excess rainfall pouring down from the mountains to the East to add to the problem. Lots of issues that make a 3-day rain event due to a stand still hurricane in NC completely different from a fast moving hurricane in SF that passes in 12 hours.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:10 pmBut was Irma a biblical cat 1 superstorm of the century proving Trump is destroying the world with his disbelief in global warming??
I don't think Floridians can process the gravity of what we are enduring here.
Send money.
Again, this was not a hurricane event. It's a surge event. Two completely different things. Get back to me after you've stayed put in a major flood zone because it's only a cat 1.
Note - Ike was only a cat 2, yet it's the 4th most expensive hurricane in our history, due to the surge issue.
Dude - immerse your house & car completely in water for 10 days and let me know how that works out for you. I don't recommend it, but if you need to do that to prove that water damage is worse than wind damage, go for it.
There are no category assignments for surge. A level 1 hurricane can do more damage than a five, depending on the surge situation.
The leading cause of death from hurricanes is not the wind; it's the surge.
This is another Katrina. It's only smaller in scope because the population on the East Coast of NC is far less dense than NO. The water damage is of the same style.

Dude. It is ridiculous. I have seen people driving pickups that probably don't have a catalytic converter or fully functional brakes that are towing a trailer full of junk or cut limbs that looked like they hauled Stonewall Jackson's supplies during the civil war. These trailers look like they are held together by spit (not even glue) and will probably burst at any minute. Shouldn't be anywhere near a road or even an internal combustion engine. They either go too slow or too fucking fast. The drivers look like extras from Black Hawk Down or Deliverance. And I love the cars driven by people who don't speak English whose front and back bumpers are held on by bondo and duct tape, with a missing window that now has a trashbag taped on it weaving dangerously between lanes, and tailgating every car in front of them. Its like we know you don't care about your car, but other people may care about their's. We also have great semi drivers, whose trailers spew gravel onto my windshield, cracking it, especially when I cross over the St. John's bridge, and who ALWAYS fucking drive in the middle and passing lane, even though they are going less than the speed limit. Motherfucker, stay in the right lane. I don't care if the semi in front is slowing you down. You are fucking slowing me down, and when you have two or three semi's blocking every lane, you are slowing down the thousands of other drivers who are trying to pass and get where they need to go. Fuck off. I don't care if your trailer full of made in china bullshit gets to wal mart 20 minutes late. Stay in your fucking place in the right lane. I hate truckers so fucking much. Its not just them. People love being in the left lane for pride reasons, but they drive like an 80 year old Asian woman on xanax and make it impossible to pass. I4 is rife with this scum. Fuck, I have convinced myself this state is unlive-able, just from recounting these driving stories. And I haven't even started on the construction that adds gasoline to this dumpster fire.heydaralon wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 4:53 pmI have been in two traffic accidents in the last year. One was in November on 436 in Altamonte. The other was in Daytona in April. I was completely not at fault for both cases. The first one I was stopped at a light for over a minute, and a lady who didn't speak English decided to rear end me. The Daytona lady decided to Tbone my car when I was driving home from a buddies house. She didn't have insurance and spoke a wonderful ebonics dialect. In both instances, the cops immediately knew I wasn't at fault, but decided not to arrest the offending parties. That second accident fucked my back up for a week, and ruined my car. Because she didn't have insurance, I got a $300 check from my company. How fucked up is that? I can get on the road, operate a dangerous motor vehicle, not even be responsible enough to have a license or the means to pay for what I damage, hit you, and not suffer any serious consequences. If these dumb bitches hit me differently, I could be paralyzed and shitting in a bag as I type. And they wouldn't get in any kind of legal trouble. The next person that hits me, no matter how frivolous, I am going to pursue legal action through some sleazy daytime tv lawyer. I am sick of these Florida driver pieces of shit. I am getting mad thinking about this. I am a person who has not made good choices throughout their life, but I would never dream of driving without a license or insurance. That seems insane to me. These individuals were grown ass adults who were probably on every government program on the books, but incapable of doing even basic adult shit. Fuck them and fuck the laws in my state that allow them to get off the hook. I often wonder if pieces of shit like this are rampant elsewhere, or if its just in Florida.HarryK wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 4:39 pmEspecially without a license let alone insurance.DBTrek wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 4:38 pmYeah, to be fair the NY transplants managed to eff up Florida pretty good. It’s a messed up place, but it’s REAL. I mean real in the Compton sense of the word. And it has its own, very distinct culture.
But like cancer cells, Snow birds kill it one transplant at a time. They don’t do traffic any favors, either.

If the private sector can prevent truckers from being in the passing lane, city council members from being bought out by developers fucking us all over, and get old slow pieces of shit to stop driving in the passing lane, then sign me the fuck up. I'll start getting Ayn Rand-ier than Austin Powers. If I was in charge I would make slowing down traffic in any way a felony and a capital crime to boot. Fuck slow drivers/truckers.

If they crash and die off the road, thats fine with me. Just make sure the emergency vehicles don't block any lanes. One less Florida driver is the way I look at it.HarryK wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:06 pmheydaralon wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:03 pmIf the private sector can prevent truckers from being in the passing lane, city council members from being bought out by developers fucking us all over, and get old slow pieces of shit to stop driving in the passing lane, then sign me the fuck up. Bicyclists don't slow down I4, but they wreak havoc on smaller roads and they think they can pedal faster than a car. I think they might just do it to fuck with people, and this deserves a thread unto itself. Our government spent tens of millions of biking trails (they are great, I use them), but these spandex fucks pretend they don't exist and block people from getting to work in the mornings. These miserable pieces of shit love to do this on the weekend on single lane roads with a speed limit of 45 which is the ultimate kick in the balls, because the only upside to working on the weekend is that you should not have to deal with the bullshit traffic you do from mon-fri. I can't stand those motherfuckers. They make me want to suck on a gaspipe.
