The main thing I learned from that was the way walls were built by infilling two timber walls with earth and stones. Probably no mortar holding it together like a stone castle but still very strong.
Only really inferior to stone castles because of fire. Some in use for 200 years after the Norman conquest.
I had always thought of them as being temporary structures until you could afford to rebuild in stone but it seems they were not built with that in mind and were designed to last several generations.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Re: Castle review thread.
Just 5 miles down the road from where I'm working on the movie is Orford castle.
Despite being in Suffolk I have never been there.

Although missing it's curtain wall it is one of the best preserved Norman keeps in the country.

How it would have looked in the 13th century

An unusual three rectangular towers joined to a polygonal keep it was a fore runner of the classic cylindrical Norman keep.

Hopefully I will get the opportunity to have a look around it sometime in the next few weeks.

Also just down the road near Woodbridge is the world renowned Suton Hoo burial site.

Mound number one was excavated in the early 20th century and was found to contain a complete Anglo Saxon ships burial along with an awesome array of 6th century grave goods.

My close up view of the Warwolf replica at Warwick castle.
You can see where the general public had to watch it from in the background.

The trebuchet is sixty foot tall. If I had turned it sideways I'd have had to stand further back to get it all in and I wanted to be as close as possible when it fired.Hastur wrote: Thu Oct 04, 2018 1:15 amDefective url.Montegriffo wrote: Tue Oct 02, 2018 1:29 pm https://vimeo.com/user90187683/review/2 ... c04f6ce050

I'm happy to make some sacrifices for my buddies here on the MHF but I don't like any of you enough to back off from the world's largest medieval trebuchet when it is launching balls 200 m into the distance.
Cheers for sorting the URL.
Ps please watch on mute, I sound like a total knob...
