Apparently in medieval times they would send children up the frame to untangle the ropes and as a reward they got to sit in the counterweight box when it was fired. I offered to try it out but once again was foiled by health and safety regulations.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Awesome stuff... see if you can host the video somewhere and link it maybe?

Patience grasshopper. I'm still 50 miles from home and it's getting late. Will upload it to Imgur tomorrow and share.
Don't get too excited though, it's only about 20 seconds long.

Last one...

Warwick castle

If you like opulence and queues you are going to love this place. Everything guilded to the point it just looks tacky. A stately home really, Most of it is from the 18th and 19th century. The original motte is still there but there's nothing left of the keep now.
The towers are 14th century but heavily restored.
Image
Lots of good stuff in the armoury but most of the armour was 19th century reproductions or 16th century tournament kit. There was only one battle armour.
Image

There were some civil war grenade launchers which I'd never seen before similar to the bottom one but older.
Image

The rest of the house was an example of the finest craftsmen and beautiful wood, marble, art, china etc...
The wood in here was really nice
Image
All very stage dressed
Image
But the queues, queues to get up the towers, queues to get down the towers, queues to get in the rooms, queues for overpriced food, queues for toilets.....
Don't go in July or August if you can help it.

But really I was only there for one thing and that was worth the £20 to get in and park(with 50% English heritage discount) It's not cheap even kids were £25 each.

That’s right, evil has returned. The madly independent fool from the NE has planted his flag on Martin Hash’s site. However since I’m using an IPad I won’t be able to have my Mad Season Avatar until further notice.

That is all. :D
