Ah, well, that's just aristocracy then. Not so much "wipe out", as much as "not give a shit about it". No one really did. I know you know that nationalism isn't actually all that old. The sense that everyone from the same ethnicity should feel some sort of kinship because of shared blood, would have meant nothing to, say, a 17th century German aristocrat. The idea that a German peasant shared his blood would have been disgusting to him. It changes around late 18th century, but before that, you may as well consider aristocracy to be its own, seperate ethnicity.

Tommy Robinson to be Released From Jail After Winning Appeal
The 35-year-old English Defence League founder was sentenced to a total of 13 months in prison but will be released later today after an appeals court found the judge who sentenced him rushed the trial and, by failing to specify exactly which part of Robinson’s live stream was problematic, denied him the opportunity to defend himself.
